On Sunday night, Allen Haywood was randomly and viciously attacked by two kids on the platform of the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station. Dozens of people witnessed it. Several people filmed it. Nobody helped.
Haywood was trying to transfer to the Yellow Line around 7:15 p.m. when the assault happened. He was headed home to Fort Totten after working out at Results on Capitol Hill, a gym bag slung over his shoulder and a book in his hands. As he read with his back to the station wall, “all of a sudden someone whacked me on the back of the head really hard,” he recalls.
Haywood turned around. The boy looked to be about 11 or 12 years old. Baffled, Haywood asked, “What the f**k are you doing?” The boy stood there laughing. Then someone else cracked Haywood from the other side. He turned around again. This time it was the girl in the video above. She didn’t stop swinging for more than a full minute, chasing Haywood around the platform as other kids egged her on....

Pepper spray may have worked okay inside a station. You still don’t want to get a whiff of it yourself. You don’t want to take yourself out and then find a crowd ready for you.

and of course punishable.
There are no concealed carry permits in DC. The DC Metro has recently started random searches of passengers. The DC Metro authority apparently wants to make sure that the small minority of white professionals riding their trains are no danger to the gangs of feral black youths roaming the platforms and beating people for entertainment.
The feral youths mostly don't carry briefcases and conceal whatever they want withing their oversized hip-hop clothes, and are not subject to searches because "that be racist".

The “there goes those Amish again” meme running around this site is unbecoming of all that use it.
You’re correct. The only people carrying guns on the Metro are those with criminal intent - or who need to protect themselves from unhappy brothers.
Which is exactly why this event happened. With the threat of swift, deadly justice, criminals will go elsewhere to seek their thrills.

For 1 thing, I think it’s clear the shown film was from a guy right there nearby, not far away. Plus, by his bad grammar, foul language and posing style, he’s ghetto. Too bad I can’t really understand it.

Likewise I’d bet the farm the sweet girl after him is black ghetto - she’s got the look AND the sound.
I have had encounters with “urban youth.” Feral mobs have attacked me in the past, with hundreds of people just watching. Not much one can do if one wants to live.
Your concerns would be addressed if the Amish learned self control.

A lot of people here think he should have attacked the girl. But he was surrounded by a pack of black kids, all taunting him. What do you think they would have done to him if he had actually decked the girl? I’m guessing knives would be used.
He had to hope that, with Metro being a “safe” place, with cameras everywhere, the metro police would be responding to a passenger being beaten by a gang. But he would be wrong to hope that, because all that security is an illusion.
If he had a gun, he might be able to defend himself, except that they would probably have guns as well, and he would be in trouble shooting some kid for slapping him, and he’d probably be killed by the other kids, who would argue he was “threatening” them.
He survived, and there is enough video that they could possible identify the perp. But the important thing is, he survived. Any attack you can walk away with, that’s a win.
Me too. But that’s not a good response. I’ve subbed in classrooms and when you get the black girls screeching like this there is almost no way to recover order, it is such a disruptive screech. I think it is like a baby’s cry — something fundamental in that screech that provokes a wild emotional response in those who hear it.
The screech and quick-attack-withdraw-passive-goad-repeat cycling is contagious. It disorients the observer, and the victim. The screech is mixed with a quick hit or item snatch-grab and withdrawal into a passive position just out of the reach of the victim.
The quick withdrawal and immediate passivity of the attacker or item grabber acts to defuse a reaction, and in public creates the sense that target’s reaction is an unprovoked attack, because the initial hit is so quick and sneaky.
The gangs are familiar with the pattern of behavior, and while it is utter chaos, it is all staging to them. they have gained a feel for how it will go and can push it to its limit. They rapidly run off when the situation turns against them.
It’s like a harpy attack.
When I’ve seen it videos and somewhat experienced it. My Fight! reaction kicks in ultra strong every time I see videos of such situations. It is less emotional for me when I was the the target — the sub teacher. That was helpful.
The young man took a whack to the head. They just kicks the adrenal response into super-high gear. His emotion over-reaction played into the break-down into chaos the kids wanted to see. The gang knew what they were doing, as did the man who took this video. He may not have been part of this, but he has seen it before and knew the pattern.
Anyway the attack style reminds me also of an attack on an old huge Red Winged Hawk by jays and crows. Quick attack, withdrawal, quick attack from another side, etc. The old hawk stood his ground, but it looked like he was doomed. They chased him beyond where I was walking.
Don’t fall for the “Amish” thing...
There is a small subset of people here that apparently thinks it’s damn funny every time there’s some thread of this nature and they pop-off with some reference to the Amish being on the rampage, or something equally stupid.
It was never funny, and has grown to be asinine.
They need to grow up, and get a new meme.

Some people think they’ve got a license to do whatever they want. What we need is legal punishment for those types of people.
I think everyone here understands that the term “Amish” is used as a satiric contrast to the ghetto subculture which perpetrates these tribalistic/animalistic attacks.
