NEW YORK — Police say a 65-year-old man from Portugal who was found dead in his swank Manhattan hotel room was castrated and beaten.
Police say the body was discovered nude by hotel staff after a worried friend went to check on the victim at the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel.
Police are looking to speak to the victim's acquaintance. The two checked in to the hotel together on Dec. 29th. The victim was discovered Friday evening around 7 p.m. inside of room 3416. Police say he suffered serious head trauma. The medical examiner's office will determine a cause of death.

The nude, sexually mutilated body of a Portuguese journalist was found in a pool of blood on the floor of a posh Times Square hotel room last night -- sparking a manhunt for the well-dressed 20-year-old male model with whom he had been staying.
The castrated corpse of Carlos Antonio DeCastro, 65, was discovered shortly after 7 p.m. in a 34th-floor room at the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel on West 44th Street, near Eighth Avenue.
His head had been bashed in and, in a gruesome act of depravity, his testicles had been sliced off -- possibly with a broken wine glass -- police sources said.
Detectives described Seabra as a person of interest in the slaying.
