Fox News’ Trace Gallagher reporting via phone on the Sean Hannity radio show from Tucson says the parents of accused Rep. Giffords shooter Jared Loughner are blocking the FBI from entering their home.
Gallagher said Fox is sending a crew to the scene.

There is a huge gap between “sanctifying” the parents and suggesting that those who blame and condemn them don’t have the facts to do so

Yeah! I have no idea how far back this goes. But it was made very popular by Castenada’s books. Those books were wildly popular with college kids, hippies, weirdos, etc.. That’s when I encountered the “idea.” Just sayin’, it’s been around a lot longer than recent radio broadcasts.
This piece in “Mother Jones” does a good job of explaining where and how (and, to his mind, why) Jared crossed paths with and fixated on Gabrielle Giffords, as well as the history of his mental illness progession into acting out his violent fantasies

According to another thread, they are blocking the FBI from entering their home. I imagine the FBI will be back with a warrant.
They all do that -- the logic is considered innocent until proven guilty, i.e., he's not "the gunman" until a court says he is! (Though some go too far IMO and refer, e.g., to "the alleged suspect"!)
It's been that way a long time -- there's a piece by Mark Twain, in his journalism days, who was scolded by an editor for not including "alleged" where the editor felt it appropriate. He retaliated by writing up a garden club meeting or some such, using "alleged" or a synonym wherever he could stick it, including a reference to the membership as "the alleged ladies"! ;-)

Just heard on Neil...Trace reporting the FBI went in the back door- not sure why the barricade is up- maybe to keep the media out?
It struck me as odd that the parents haven’t made a statement- of any kind.
The NICS is an on site process used at the point of purchase for a firearm. The FFL Dealer logs into the system and keys in the purchasers information then the system either approves or denys the purchase.
All the info contained by the FBI in the NICS is provided by the participating states and deals primarily with felony crime convictions or domestic assault issues.....There is no info provided to the FBI about an individual's mental health unless such illness was directly related to the felony conviction.
Does this mean the system is flawed? I don't think so, the only individuals who may have had a remote possibility of preventing this tragedy were the kid's family and I don't think they had any control over him since he no longer lived at home.
