Judge sentences Tom DeLay to 3 years in prison

judge has ordered U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to serve three years in prison for his role in a scheme to illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.

The sentence comes after a jury in November convicted DeLay on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. DeLay was once one of the most powerful men in U.S. politics, ascending to the No. 2 job in the House of Representatives.

The former Houston-area congressman had faced up to life in prison. His attorneys asked for probation.

This is completely politically driven, not criminally driven. What he did with candidates was legal and is still done. This is outrageous. I hope he appeals and it gets tossed.

If we had a conservative governor we might wish for a pardon.

Did DeLay do something illegal? Probably.

Did everyone else do it? Probably.

Can I get too worked up over K-Street Project Tom getting railroaded? No.

Will Delay remain free until the TX Court of Criminal Appeals overturns this injustice?

Obama raised tens of millions of dollars over the Internet through donors he refused to disclose and made no attempt screen. Everyone knows that his campaign was funded with a river of foreign currency, and that myriad laws were broken - including conduit contributions, contributions exceeding the legal limit and contributions from phony donors. Having won the election, neither his own inaptly named Department of Justice or toothless FEC bothered to review the matter. This is a scandal of the first order and deserves a serious investigation.

Perry can recommend a pardon with the Board of Pardons and Paroles. But the Texas Governor does not have that power on his own. Just FYI.

And Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Charles Rangel, Algore etc. etc. are the toasts of the Coasts. There is no justice for conservatives in America.

Not necessarily, the TX judges are very often RINOs to the core because the citizens are uninformed about the judicial selection process. The Newspapers never inform them about the credentials of the judicial candidates.

The only person who should go to jail is the Judge.

Delay was convicted by Texas jurors, not the judge..

Are you suggesting the Texas jurors are stupid and or corrupt?

Did DeLay do something illegal? Probably.

It wasn't illegal when he did it.

Ex post facto and all that.

But don't get yourself worked up over.

The government would never (heh) retroactively enforce a law against you, so why should you care?

Ex-House leader DeLay gets 5-year prison term

I wonder which it is 3 or 5 years...

From your linked article:

The judge allowed DeLay to serve 10 years probation in lieu of the five-year term, but ordered him to serve the three-year term with no probation.

Attorneys from both sides of the isle, right and left, defense and prosecution have said the same thing.

They don’t even know how he got convicted to begin with.

Probably stupid. They were selected precisely for their stupidity. Any thinking person would know this was a political railroad job and voted not guilty. There’s no excuse for a juror to follow that ‘ if it fits the letter of the law,,, you must convict’ bs,

“Are you suggesting the Texas jurors are stupid and or corrupt? “

Yup.

And the DC jurors who “convicted” Scooter Libby were also corrupt, especially the foreman.

In both cases, the jury was highly Democrat in a highly Democrat district.

Do you really believe there is Justice in America?

The "Hammer" is probably a crook.

3 yrs doesn't sound bad compared to the potential of life behind bars. The law, which he was a part of, must be applied even to people in power or it means nothing.
