AT least eight people have died in the latest wave of flooding in Queensland and dozens more are missing.
Premier Anna Bligh this morning said eight people had died in the floods and another 11 people are confirmed missing near Toowoomba.
The deputy commissioner of police Ian Stewart said 72 people had been reported as missing throughout the whole region.
Ms Bligh said the dead included a mother and two children whose car had been swept away in the floodwaters.
She said wet weather was hampering the rescue efforts and the search for the 11 missing people.
"We have a further 11 people confirmed missing and we have very grave fears about them," she told the Nine Network on Tuesday morning. The 11 came from four homes in Murphys Creek.

We just got a skype message from our friends (who our daughter is living with) that they have evacuation orders pending. If I remember correctly they are 18 feet above the river.
Last week the flood area covered an area larger than the state of Texas.
I feel helpless here but will be traveling at the end of the month for what is likely an extended stay in order to help clean up at their house and my employers business.
Australia is probably one of our best allies in the world. If you feel the inclination you could make a donation (at the paper's site) or maybe even fly over to help. Prayers are always good too.

While I am as happy as anyone to blame the White House when it misses something, these floods have been happening for nearly two weeks now across Queensland, and the US government officially offered help and support if Australia needs it last week.

Brisbane has sure changed since I was there — can see that on GoogleEarth. But the river winds through downtown just like before. If the dam holds then damage to Brisbane itself should be very limited. If not...
The Federal Government has announced emergency relief and in the United States, President Obama says America is ready to provide whatever assistance it can. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who has forged a close relationship with Australia, said America's thoughts and prayers were with flood victims.
So far, Australia hasn't needed to accept American offers of help in this case, but they have been made.

Lets just see how we ride through this, this next few days or week will tell how bad things will get. We are all safe & so is our home but rivers are rising fast, Brisbane City is expected to go under later today.
She doesn't sound like she usually does, and that's got me worried.
Ah, I just searched at the white house site, not generally from any other department.
