The Troops are back from holiday leave!
A cold evening made warm by the return of the wounded warriors and their families, a number of whom came out to visit with us. Shortly after 6:30pm, as Trooprally was putting up the red We Support Our Brave Troops banner in front of Walter Reed, a soldier leaving WR, pulled over and thanked Trooprally for being here.

Two other wounded warriors came to talk and asked who the people (moonbats) down the block were. After discussing who the moonbats were and described the signs they displayed, they got a little pod. So they took a little trip down Georgia Ave to see for themselves. When they came back, they thanked us for having all four corners, and also, for having their backs.
One great event occurred when a big rig came south slowly past us with his horn on high. It was a lengthy blast, and then the rig continuing slowly down Georgia, abruptly stopped in front of the moonbats. We really like those big rigs. The bus returned from dinner and it was fully filled with wounded warriors and their families. After their two week break, it was good to see them.
January 14, 2011 will be the 300TH consecutive Friday that the DC Chapter of Free Republic has rallied outside of Walter Reed Army Medical Center . As we have mentioned before, WRAMC will be closing as a medical facility in the 3rd Quarter, 2011. It will move its medical facilities to Bethesda Naval Hospital, a scant four or so miles away. The DC Chapter of Free Republic will be here until the move.

You guys are JUST AWESOME!!!
I can’t be there but do you have a donations site? Bucket? My DIL soon to go to Afghanistan, I would contribute for hot chocolate cookies whatever.
God Bless you!!
Thanks Squarebarb,
we don’t take donations, but suggest any such go to Aleethia Foundation which coordinates the Friday night dinners.
However, if you visit us please bring those cookies or hot chocolate.
kburi
And thank your DIL for her service to our country, and wishes for a safe tour.
These reports make me feel so good, even as they bring tears to my eyes. God bless all of you. If I make it out your way, I will be proud to stand with you someday.
I don’t know how, week after week, that you make these cold Fridays feel so warm, and I was there. Maybe it is that after 5 winters in front of WR we have learned how to stay warm (Lurker Bill’s music and space heater helps), or it is seeing the troops returning from their dinner (their wavers and smiles would warm anyone’s heart), or the FReepers who share each other’s company.
It will all be missed when the doors finally close. Not sure right now, but the FReepers will be planning something for that event.

My love and appreciation to each and all of you. You have been more than stalwart, faithful and true. You epitomize the Free Republic and stand as examples of what we all should be. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. (I’m feeling philosophic). Hugs all around.
Maryland PING!
Keep up the good work!
Aleethia it is!
Always wondered how they select troops for the bus?
Another cold night!
Thank you all for being there.
Cold here too...LOL
80 degrees predicted for today.
I hope you get a better answer than I can give...but they “sign up” when they are well enough to go.
I have also heard it is a part of the socialization progress before release.
Just wish I could get there more often but I don't trust myself driving at night anymore.
I so do appreciate the people that can be there and these reports.
I would just love to go in there and say thank you directly to those troops.
Soldiers do read this site, not just in the US, but in Afghanistan or Iraq.
So your comments of support are just as important to them as being here.
