A house divided against itself cannot stand but it will certainly garner a lot of media attention. As we told you earlier, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is criticizing Fox News Channels All-Star Panel for, as he sees it, slobbering over President Barack Obamas speech at this weeks memorial event for those killed in the recent Tucson, Arizona shooting.
Fox News is, of course, fighting back. Charles Krauthammer appeared on Bret Baiers show last night and responded to Limbaughs critique:
"As one of the three slobberers I find it interesting that only the ruling class wants a president who is smart articulate and oratorical in delivering a funeral oration Its an odd and rather condescending view of what the rest of America is looking for in their president."
(Snip to video)
What an ignorant statement.
Since when is emotional funeral oration completely lacking in substance worthy of ANYONE'S praise, least of all a man like Charles K. who OUGHT to know better? Why does he choose THIS issue to part ways with Conservatives? Ridiculous!!
In 1978, Krauthammer quit medical practice to direct planning in psychiatric research for the Jimmy Carter administration, and began contributing to The New Republic magazine. During the presidential campaign of 1980, Krauthammer served as a speech writer to Vice President Walter Mondale. In January 1981, Krauthammer began his journalistic career, joining The New Republic as a writer and editor. His New Republic writings won the 1984 "National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticism." In 1983, he began writing essays for Time magazine. In 1985, he began a weekly column for the Washington Post for which he won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for commentary.
He’s been smoking a drug called “RELIVENCY” and he’s running out of it and doesn’t know where to get anymore.
It wasn’t a funeral oration, it was a pep rally. All it was missing was confetti.
Here’s a challenge to Kruathammer: if it was such a good speech, then without referring to the transcript, name me three memorable lines from the speech.
I didn’t watch a single commentary about the speech, yet I still found it to be a surprisingly good speech. I’m just calling it as I see it. (The crowd behavior was atrocious and I still believe Obama is inept and dangerous, but it was good speech.) Rush’s very effective strategy is to never do or say anything that does not provide red meat to his listeners, lest they lose interest and lose faith in him as a fighter. Its not a bad strategy, actually, but its still a conscious strategy nonetheless. Be honest ... no matter WHAT Obama said that night or any night, Rush would NEVER praise him.
We have such admiration today for Lincoln it borders on adoration. But during his time as President he wasn’t popular all that much and came under heavy criticism by the newspapers.
After he was dead he became a martyr, like JFK, and is much admired today.
It would be better to do that than shoot your mouth off and anger the people who watch your show every night. Rush will rip you to shreds.....violent way of telling the truth none the less. (Sorry, I just can't tone down the hateful rhetoric!)
I was thinking the same thing when I heard him :-)
Charles knows all about condescending.
Absolutely, you've got it! Even boring Jimmay Carter was a better drone. I can imagine how many times the speech was rehearsed so he could learn to put some emotion in it to match the teleprompter. All that was missing is Clinton teaching him to cry and wipe tears on cue.
I obviously did not watch the spew-meister in chief.
Sounds as though it’s toned way down one side and back up the other side.
Oh really. Tell us all what was so great about that speech. It was just Obama preaching at , once again. I find it offensive that you are accusing Rush of lying just to make his listeners happy. Like his listeners are so stupid they need Rush to tell them what to think. The whole thing was a joke.
I also know that Obama could have stop the crowd behavior anytime he wanted. He choose not to because he liked their behavior. Not one word was said by him to the audience about their behavior.
I've always thought him to be one of those inside-the-beltway Republican Elite, the ones the liberal media love to have on their programs.
Elitist moderate/RINOs are more disgusting that regular leftist Dems. MUCH more disgusting.
LOL. You forgot "bright and clean and a nice-looking guy", Charles!
I wouldn't care if my president sounded like Daffy Duck on helium if they would actually follow the constitution. Charles, on the other hand, has other prorities, like pitch and tone.
He's high just being put on a white pedestal by the Fox news channel.
