If he can get his proposed tax extensions on the ballot, Gov. Jerry Brown just might have a shot at persuading voters to pass them and balance the state's budget.
A month before Brown introduced his budget plan, a statewide voter survey by pollster Jim Moore, commissioned by Democratic legislators, found that 58 percent of the 1,000 respondents were inclined to extend the 2009 increases for four years if doing so would minimize cuts to K-12 education, public safety and health care.
However, Brown and his allies will have to do some educating. That 58 percent support was registered only after pollsters briefed respondents about the 2009 hikes in the income and sales taxes and vehicle license fee.
Only about a third of those surveyed even knew they had been raised.

It’s California... of COURSE they’re fine with the tax hike. They’re probably just convinced the “evil rich people” will pay it.
Is it any wonder why individuals and businesses are leaving California in record numbers and moving to states that have lesser tax rates and fewer regulations over business.
Illinois is doing the same thing.
These two states are going to lose a lot of people and businesses both.
The beneficiaries will be neighboring states and other states that have low tax rates and better business climates and atmospheres.

Ann Arbor Michigan is a beautiful example of the problem. Washtenaw county has the highest per capita number of taxpayer funded jobs. Sure enough they always want more taxes.

You have a majority in this state on welfare, government employment welfare and other great society programs.
Brown had the employment unions getting nothing cut.
They spend a good 150 million backing him last election and they will spend more now to try and keep their King sized ransom pay.

What if they are told the truth? Cuts to K-12 education, public safety and health care are being made to preserve massive payments to unionized gov’t employees. Do they want to extend tax increases to pay for cushy retirements for a government workers at 52?
