Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels may not be the only Hoosier seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2012. The rumors started swirling over the weekend that Rep. Mike Pence could be throwing his hat in the ring as well.
Conservative leaders are certainly beating the drum for a Pence run. This week, Mr. Pence will receive a letter of support for a presidential bid from, among others, Dick Armey, a former Republican House majority leader; Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center; and Morton Blackwell, president of the Leadership Institute.
There is also a petition circulating on the Internet to draft Mr. Pence for president. It is being spearheaded by former Rep. Jim Ryan and former Reagan official Ralph Benko, who has close ties to the conservative blogging community and the tea party movement. We're also told that a coalition of conservative state legislators in South Carolina is urging Mr. Pence to run and promising to do all it can to carry the early primary state for the congressman. Mr. Pence also enjoys the support of two former GOP congressmen from Indiana—David McIntosh and Chris Chocola, who now runs the Club for Growth. "Mike has a Reagan quality to him that is lacking in many of the other first tier Republican candidates," said Mr. McIntosh.
Mr. Pence won the straw poll at a gathering of more than 1,000 social conservatives in Washington, D.C., over the summer—besting Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, and presumptive front-runner Mitt Romney. One concern is what Sarah Palin's intentions are, since she would have a huge funding base if she runs. But the pro-Pence movement fears that she is highly polarizing and someone who would have a difficult time beating President Obama in the general election.

I wonder what made him come around? And exactly how does he define amnesty? McCain said he is against amnesty and McCain-Kennedy was not an amnesty bill. Even Obama is against amnesty.

King has said previously that he will support Pence for POTUS.(a lot can happen between then and now)

What made him come around? Reality that conservatives detested him for his limp-wristed “compromise”. He got a rash of sh*t from Hunter, Tanc, King, and all the real conservatives, as well as his constituents.
You’re right that when many conservatives split the vote, a RINO can win with a plurality — IF the primary is winner-take-all as in 2008.
I thought that was being changed, though, to provide more proportional splitting of delegates, like the Dems do, which would make a big difference. Will the 2012 primaries still be winner-take-all?
They all have some flaws. Pence voted to extend unemployment benefits, King did not. Pence proposed a disastrous amnesty plan, King opposed it every step of the way. Pence voted to give billions to Mexico for its war on drugs. King said NO.
There is no way anyone can convince me that Pence is more conservative than King. Close, yeah. But that’s it.
Has she ever named a single federal department or agency that she would get rid of?
I have no idea his name ID nationally but I would think it should be pretty good. He's certainly all over the TV. He and Bachmann are very good friends so I don't know what they have planned. Pence is also a friend.

King is more forceful than either Pence or Bachmann, though I like all three very much. He’s like Tancredo without the stuttering and foot in mouth disease.

Yes, and unfortunately, I think we're going to find that MOST GOP politicians - even otherwise conservative ones - do, since that's the "pro-business" position, and heaven forfend that conservatives take a stance that doesn't promote the bottom line of globalist businessmen uber alles (same general idea applies to trade issues, btw).
The Tea Party has started the ball rolling, but over the next year and a half, we need to make the GOP have a come to Jesus moment about this and some other issues. The GOP leadership needs to be made to understand that if they hope to win, they need to keep and expand their share of the sshhhhhhh *looks around furtively* white vote. I know Steve Sailer isn't popular with the management around here, but the fact remains that when the GOP follows the "Sailer Strategy," they win, when they pander to minority voters, they lose.

The residents of these states must start raising holy hell with their representatives to close their primaries. If you support a conservative candidate this is how to get them elected. Otherwise, in November 2012 you will find yourselves voting for Romney, Huckabee, Giuliani or Gingrich. Cry and bluster all you want. Post “Never Again!” one more time if it makes you feel better. But if Obama runs again the democrats and “independents” in these states will have nothing better to do on primary day than shove another Rudy McRomney down your throats.

Absolutely. We can’t go wrong with so many conservatives in the race. I hope they all decide to run.
