Sarah Palin Crushes Oprah Winfrey in Head to Head Cable Ratings Monday Night

Sarah Palin crushed Oprah Winfrey last night when the two went head to head at 9 p.m. EST on the Fox News Channel and CNN.

Palin appeared on Fox's Hannity to give her first interview in the wake of media attacks on her over the Arizona massacre while Winfrey was the prize guest on the debut of Piers Morgan Tonight, CNN's successor to the Larry King Show.

The New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, New York Magazine and Broadcasting & Cable each gave Piers Morgan the headlines for their articles about the ratings battle, even though his show placed a decisive second. Palin's triumph is mentioned but played down.

The numbers according to Broadcasting & Cable:

Hannity: 2.4 million, 600,000 in 25-54demo.

Morgan: 2.1 million, 521,000 in 25-54 demo.

Rachel Maddow on MSNBC: 1.1 million, 342,000 in 25-54 demo.

Palin's audience was nearly 15 percent larger than those who tuned in to watch Oprah.

Guess Oprah’s confidence in America’s intelligence slipped a little with this news.

Larry had Maddow numbers. CNN improved alot with this new show.

We'll see how long that lasts.

The ratings match was between Palin and Oprah, not Fox and CNN. Palin crushed her by about 15 percent.

Or if you want to look at it another way, Palin caused a less than 10% bump in Hannity's viewership while Oprah appears to have tripled the viewers in the 9PM slot on CNN. Who had the more impact?

Since Sarah was on Fox and Oprah was on CNN, it is illegitimate to ignore the Fox vs. CNN factor. Doing so would be like insisting that a Super Bowl matchup is strictly a one on one battle between the starting quarterbacks. I have never watched Oprah and am not at all interested in doing so, but a valid argument could be made that she helped to provide CNN with a bigger bump than Sarah helped to provide Fox. Of course their are other factors as well, so that comparison would only have limited validity.

Sean Hannity with Sarah Palin on Fox News received approximately 15% more viewers than Piers Morgan with Oprah on CNN. This is notable but not shocking. It’s predictable that those who support Sarah Palin will be pleased and those who don’t support Palin will be slightly annoyed and attempt to downplay and explain away the higher ratings for Hannity (with Palin). Still, the numbers remain what they are and belie the canard that Sarah Palin is ‘toxic’ and should forget about seeking the 2012 Republican presidential nomination - exactly what the left wants us to think. I don’t buy it - and I suspect a majority of Americans don’t, either.

Palin had more impact than Oprah. Palin crushed Oprah head to head and in the key demo by about 15 percent.

If that’s the case I wonder when he’s going to interview people that still hold relevancy in today’s media...so far it looks to be so yesterday!

Who’s the 3rd interview...? Dick Cavett?

Yeah... but if Oprah SAT on Sarah, she could crush her.

Easily.

You have me there mate!

I like Morgan well enough. I can’t stand Oprah. Her blind support of OholyO and attendance at the same chrch of hate Obama attended for 20 years writes her off any list of mine other than the “complete suck” list.
