EUGENE, Ore. -- To his owner, 7-year-old Bull Terrier "Spanky" was a calm and loving companion.
"I had this dog for seven years since he was a puppy and I never seen him aggressive toward any human being," said Spanky's owner, Christopher Robinson.
Robinson said Spanky was gentle and never snappy, but the dog Robinson describes is a far cry from the dog a Eugene Police Department detective encountered on Tuesday.
According to neighbors and Robinson, the detective stopped by Robinson's home to talk to him about an unrelated case involving one of his neighbors.
Robinson said he wasn't home at the time but that the detective later told him that as he approached Robinson's home, he noticed that the door was open and that Spanky was in the yard.
According to neighbors, the detective said Spanky began to growl and show his teeth before lunging towards him.

Another one of too many instances where the jackboot kills an innocent animal. It’s about time to start evening the score. I’m sick of this LEO attitude that “we can do whatever we want”.
Bob Lee Swagger: You don’t understand how serious this is. They killed my dog.
Sarah Fenn: What are you going to do?
Bob Lee Swagger: Exercise my right to bear arms.
Ping!
I don’t get the reference.
You’re right about the BT’s. They don’t tend to be territorial like other breeds. They’ll generally welcome you. If you were to actually attack their owner, you’d want to watch out, but short of that, they pretty much just want to be your buddy.
Apparently it’s from “Shooter”, a movie released in 2007.
**Wait til the cops can do no wrong JBT- boot-lickers show up to defend this imbecile.**
I invited some. Let’s see if they show up. ;)

Shoot a cop for shooting a dog? Thats crazy, and you know it. No animal, however beloved, is worth a human life under any circumstances.
My neighbor has an intact bullie......this dog is best buddies with everything and everyone including butterflies
He was a Katrina rescue from NOLA......
I swear this dog has a sense of humor and just takes joy in living.....
Seriously though, if the dog was attacking him, then he had to gun it down. Officers fulfilling their duties may on occasion need to approach a private property, and if attacked by a resident critter, what can he do?

It is all about egos and control ,and people feeling all puffed up with their authority.
You would think the Soviet police state would be an object lesson in how not to run a nation but too many socialists are determined to impose their control regardless.
Wasn’t the cop chasing a teenager with a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest?
I mentioned this story to a friend of mine and he didn’t have a problem with the cop shooting the dog. He said the cops life is worth more than the dogs (as if the dog would kill the cop). When I told him the dog was only doing his job in his own yard, he didn’t care. Some people can justify anything.
I can tell you this... if a cop was shooting my dogs in their kennel because the cop was chasing a bad guy, I’m not going to wait for anybody to identify themselves, for that could get me killed as well.
The police are out of control and wrong about this.
What flavor boot-polish do you prefer—brown or black?
No, he did not “have” to gun it down. He had several options:
1) Leave the premises and return when the dog’s owner was home, since his claimed objective was to talk to the dog’s owner.
2) Return to his car and call animal control for assistance.
3) Return on the date when he and the owner had previously agreed that they would meet, which would have been today.
Police used to get their job done WITHOUT needlessly shooting dogs. Since they have demonstrated that they are capable of doing so, it is the job of the conservative to hold them to that standard.
Cops in general have greatly earned the disdain and disgust most of the public feel towards most of them.
Protect and serve my ass. More like buLly, badger, and blame.
