We have reaction just in to our newsroom... from a seattle man arrested after refusing to show his i-d to security agents at the airport ... and filming the incident. just about an hour ago... an Albuquerque jury cleared Phil Mocek of all charges.

"It's been a long time - I feel good that we had police and tsa on record saying that you don't have to show id to fly and that you can use a camera at the airport."

Phil Mocek faced charges including disorderly conduct, and concealing his identity... following the 2009 incident. the defense argued Mocek didn't hide his identity... because he had a boarding pass with his name on it.

I don’t like the TSA goons any better than anyone else but this thought does come to mind..just because you have a boarding pass does not mean the name on the boarding pass is yours. What if there were some kind of emergency and IDs were necessary? I think the whole thing revolved around the reason and how the request was made so I am not judging the man who won his case..just thinking of a reason why it would be requested when he had the boarding pass. Maybe I missed something in the story.

Suppose a terrorist steals someone’s boarding pass. Requiring a photo ID would detect the theft, unless the thief happened to look like the victim.

Doesn't sound logical to me ... Cash purchased tickets don't require identification.

I'm thinking that a jury had reason to nullify the charges.

Of all the shortcomings people place on Bush, I believe the ultimate insult to our freedom was his creation of the DHS and the TSA. These people do not want to protect us; they want to take away our freedoms and enslave us.

that is not true. You always have to show ID to pick up a boarding pass.

Showing an ID does nothing for security. You can purchase a ticket in a fake name and go through security with a fake ID.

But what is the real lesson here? The real lesson is government will “wrongly” accuse anyone who dares step out of line and the process of the trial, even when the person is found to be innocent, is the actual punishment because the individual is forced to pay to a defense which in and of itself, is an indirect “fine or punishment”.

This is the real threat of government...false accusations which lead to financial hardships. This is how totalitarians try to get control over the masses.

You always have to show ID to pick up a boarding pass.

When did that start?

I'll be on a plane tomorrow and all I need to get a boarding pass is to punch in a confirmation number.

Ha. I always print my BPs out at home. Saves time on the day of travel.

Yup. Like just about everything else the TSA does, it's security theater designed to provide the illusion of security while not providing the reality of it.
