No one dares to act independently in a Totalitarian State... No way the pianist picked out the piece without having it cleared.

Ever wonder what happened to the kid who stood in front of the tank? He's probably part of a dinner plate in your Chinese ‘bone china’ set...

The pianist himself is a US resident, but with family still in China. It could be viewed as either a “ha, ha, I put this stunt over on America” or “psst Obama, are you aware that they’re still pushing this America-wants-to-conquer-China garbage in China, decades after the Korean War?”

The “State Department” is left of Obama. IMHO

Thanks for the correction. I feel better - it was so blatant the other way that it WAS scary...

The United States has fought in other countries; but the largest bit of land they’ve ever asked for has been just enough to BURY THEIR DEAD MILITARY MEN AFTER THEY HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED TO LIBERATE THOSE COUNTRIES! I suppose this “Apologist in Chief” wants to apologize for THAT!!!

This is scarier than Hell - you must know that, don’t you?

Just because someone is considered ‘from here’, it doesn’t mean they can’t be controlled or blackmailed due to living relatives in China.

While the US has taken and kept land in conquest up through the 19th century, the only parallel situation in the 20th century was the keeping of a small Japanese island, taken for strategic reasons during WWII, which was asked decades later to vote on whether it wished to rejoin Japan. The people of the island voted the proposal down — they liked the idea of being a US possession better.

The State department is loaded with Commies and queers.

If they did know in advance, it is doubtful they would have notified Obama.

And if notified, Obama might well have approved.

Why of course, blackmail COULD have been part of the picture. But I can’t help thinking that in such a scenario, whoever on the Chinese side dreamed this up would have known there would be blowback from flaunting a movie which is an obvious lie. I’m leaning towards the theory that this was a protest move on the part of the pianist, or requested by a “friendly” or one of his relatives.

It’s kind of hard to see it that way, especially because of the rich propaganda value of it back home.

I guess it would be rich, until the story popped with the intense international publicity it is sure to get, most of which will point out that the film was a blatant lie. While China screens news, screening out a globe’s worth of gab about the issue will be next to impossible. For propaganda purposes, China would have been best served by leaving the issue alone. I still think the pianist knowingly socked the hornet’s nest knowing it would head home.

“At the White House State dinner on Jan. 19, about six minutes into his set, Lang Lang began tapping out a famous anti-American propaganda melody from the Korean War: the theme song to the movie “Battle on Shangganling Mountain.”

The film depicts a group of “People’s Volunteer Army” soldiers who are first hemmed in at Shanganling (or Triangle Hill) and then, when reinforcements arrive, take up their rifles and counterattack the U.S. military “jackals.”

The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades. CCP propaganda has always referred to the Korean War as the “movement to resist America and help [North] Korea.” The message of the propaganda is that the United States is an enemy—in fighting in the Korean War the United States’ real goal was said to be to invade and conquer China. The victory at Triangle Hill was promoted as a victory over imperialists.”

When the Chinese people realize they have “been had” — like, why doesn’t the US try to conquer Canada or Mexico? — watch the feces hit the propeller.

““My Motherland” having been played at the White House will be seen as a propaganda triumph in China.

“In the eyes of all Chinese, this will not be seen as anything other than a big insult to the U.S.,” says Yang Jingduan, a Chinese psychiatrist now living in Philadelphia who had in China been a doctor in the Chinese military. “It’s like insulting you in your face and you don’t know it, it’s humiliating.”

The song is called, “My Motherland,” and I was able to find the lyrics:
