Boxer to Introduce Common-Sense Concealed Firearms Act of 2011(Barf Alert)
yubanet.com ^ | 22 January, 2011 | Sen. Barbara Boxer's office

Washington, D.C. January 22, 2011 – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today announced that next week she will introduce the Common-Sense Concealed Firearms Act of 2011, which would require all states that allow residents to carry concealed weapons in public to have minimum standards for granting permits.

Senator Boxer said, "The tragic events in Tucson earlier this month are a reminder of why we need common-sense gun laws. This measure will establish reasonable permitting standards for Americans who wish to carry concealed firearms. According to a recent poll, more than 60 percent of respondents believe there should be a reasonable permitting process for those who wish to carry concealed firearms."

Senator Boxer's legislation would require all states that allow residents to carry concealed weapons to establish permitting processes that would include meaningful consultation with local law enforcement authorities to determine whether the permit applicant is worthy of the public trust and has shown good cause to carry a concealed firearm.

Currently, two states do not permit residents to carry concealed firearms, while three states, including Arizona, allow residents to carry concealed firearms in public without a permit. The other 45 states require residents to obtain permits to carry concealed firearms, but the majority of these states would not meet the standard set in this bill.

Senator Boxer plans to introduce the legislation when the Senate reconvenes next week.

It is a serious grammatical error to use the words "Boxer" and "Common-Sense" in the same sentence.

The only exception is if one is used in a negative sense as in "Babs Boxer is totally lacking in common-sense."

The real bitch (other than Ma’am Babs herself) of this is - Why aren’t the GOP leaders immediately jumping to their feet and bitch-slapping this shameless exploitation of a tragedy into oblivion???

Every time one of these Apparachniks introduces a gun control bill and mentions “Tuscon” inthe same breath, the Republicans should be screaming about “wading in innocent blood” and “opportunism” and any other epithet that applies.

Half the battle could be won just by CALLING THESE A*HOLES ON THE CARPET everytime they bring this sh*t up.

So far the response....[crickets...snoring....]

Alright, Senator Boxer: We'll establish minimum standards for concealed carry that every state will have to adopt and honor.

Once I'm approved for CCW in Nevada, I can carry lawfully in Manhattan NYC in exactly the same manner in which I can drive my Nevada-licensed truck down Fifth Avenue with my Nevada-issued driver's license in my wallet.

There, and any other city in the USA. You got a deal, Senator Boxer.

I would love to be able to carry in CA. Here in Reno I seldom feel the need for carry (people here armed and polite), but since I ride in CA often (Fry’s run to Sac, the Sharktank in SJ, the beach at Santa Cruz, exploring the Sierras and Central coast) thats
where I would like to carry.

Thats where gangs, crazy people and roadragers have free rein.

Yep, boxer naming her bill ‘common sense’ is a laugh in-itself. Add the fact that Reid/Pelosi congress proposed no gun control bills while they ran the congress with a super-majority, now with a Beohner/Republican House it's suddenly time to pass a bill that Democrats wouldn't touch.

Congressional Republicans are checking the wind direction on this one, maybe have Frank Luntz do some focus group polls before they say anything :).

“I think Mr. Loughtner DID have a conceal carry permit.”

Isn’t Arizona a “Constitutional Carry” state where no permit is required to carry concealed?

It’s too bad that more citizen of Arizona didn’t exercise that right or the Tucson tradegy would have been prevented/mitigated.

“Barbara Boxer” and “common sense”; two phrases that go together like “fish sticks” and “tire iron”.

The RNC vision of rapid response is to defer until the next election cycle, and tell us what masterful plans they have if only we’ll support them. Then, after we do, NOTHING, again!

Hope that’s all they do - and not cave in, suddenly getting the idea that “hey...gun control didn’t work for the Dems...maybe it’ll be a good idea for US!”.

I don’t care what the bill is, we should start naming ours like they do.

Tax Reform = The Loving Puppies bill

Spending cuts = The Children’s Act

Defense appropriations = The Mother Earth act

Hey, it works for the Dems.

But “high cap” mags over 10 rounds will be banned by 2012 and forever after. Count on it.

I doubt it. So many of the newly elected Reps from both sides of the aisle have such sturdy creds in this area, I don't think that even Tuscon will be able to overcome the radiation that emanates from gun control and the chilling effect it has on political careers. The fact that Americans each and every month from Nov 2008 thru March of 2010 purchased enough firearms, magazines and ammo to completely equip the combined armies of both India and pakistan (each and every single month!) will have a calming effect on the pols who want to remain in power. It wasn't just Republicans buying all that firepower, after all. The RATS are so deep in the hole that nobody except the mental moonbeams like Boxer and Feinstein and Carolyn McCarthy are going to sign onto this kind of legislative kool-aid. I just don't see it happening. EVEN IF it makes it past the Senate (which I doubt), it is still DOA in the House.

Pretty much seems that way...

Unless they have a super secret, really really really fool-proof plan to stick it to the Dems, and stand up to them once and for all, and, and...oh, wait...never mind.

Nah. Yer right, brother.
