Rahm Emanuel knocked off ballot by Appellate Court

I just heard on WLS radio in Chicago that the Illinois Court of Appeals (the second-highest court in the state) overturned the recommendation of the electoral panel and ruled that Rahm Emanuel may NOT be on the ballot for Mayor. They ruled that he did not meet the statutory residence requirement nor did he meet any of the statutory exceptions.

To me the killer was when he stopped paying Illinois income taxes. If he had truly stayed a resident he would have paid the taxes, but he decided that he had officially moved to Washington in 2009.

I see that I have to correct what I wrote. The committee ruled that Emanuel could be on the ballot, and the lower court upheld that decision, The Appellate Court decision did not overturn the committee ruling, it overturned the lower court ruling. The effect is the same, but procedurally the case had to go through the circuit court before it reached the Appellate Court.

If they don’t find a way to get him on the ballot, then it will be some other dick who’s just as bad.

And really... This is the state of Chicago we are talking about, if they want him to be mayor he will be mayor. Everything else is just the drama between the opening act and the last scene.
