McCain: Everything Must Be on Chopping Block (MCBAILOUT ALERT) (McCain praises Ted Kennedy)
CBS News ^ | 2011-01-25

NEW YORK - Sen. John McCain said the American people's message from the last message was clear: Cut government spending.

(snip)

"I had to campaign for re-election in the last election, and the message is clear: They want to stop the spending, it's out of control, that it mortgaged our children's futures - $14 trillion debt, it's unimaginable. And the consequences of our failure to get spending under control will be a bankrupt America.

"The size of government has doubled since 1999," he said. "The debt has gone up ... some $5 trillion."

McCain said significant cuts are required - and that no area of government should be off-limits.

Among the areas McCain said could be targeted for cuts: The Pentagon.

"There are cuts that can be made in some defense spending, although I hope those will be translated into savings," he said. "And across-the-board reductions in spending, no matter what it be. But agricultural subsidies is one of them. Waste and mismanagement. Medicare fraud.

"But we also have to look at the entitlements," he continued. "The two elephants in the room are called Social Security and Medicare. We have to address them and we have to reform them and we're going to have to make painful changes.

(snip)

He also advocated for more civility, but not at the expense of all else. "We can be more civil, but let's not lose our passion. Some of my favorite debates were with a guy named Ted Kennedy, who had passion like I haven't seen before or since."

I read that the incoming members aligned with the Tea Party movement have said that cuts to military spending must be considered and Gates just announced a new round of military budget cuts. Looks like it’s gonna happen whether we like it or not.

Lol, didn’t you once tell me that McCain, Hillary and Teddy used to sit and drink vodka together. I think there was a specific time and place involved but can’t recall it.

I once held him in high regard. No more.

He talks out of both sides of his mouth.

McCain is no better than Obama

Dear Mr. McCain,

Please go away.

It is time you retire.

Thank you for your service.

Watch him go after the replacement tanker (KC-X) program. I cannot figure out why he has such a h$%^on for that program - KC-135s are much older than the pilots.

You really need to let go of your hatred for McCain.

He is never going to be the nominee again, and if it weren’t for him Sarah Palin would still be unknown to most americans.

JRochelle, give us one good reason why we shouldn’t hate John McCain.

He has lined up with the people who wish to destroy our nation.

Take a look at this. Read every bit of it. Then come back and tell me about the peace and love you wish for him.

He’s such a RINO. I lived in AZ for almost 2 years and loved everything about it except knowing my senator was John McLame so I moved back to Maine.

I think the people of AZ should pay a disproportionate share of the debt, as they continue to plague us with their poor political choices, Udall, Babbitt, O’Connor, DeConcini, McPain, lightweight Kyl.

Think McCain needs to watch his language. 'Chopping block' - given our enemies in the world, could be insightful.

That said. . .don't what scares me more; our enemy; or those who refuse or simply cannot see - them.

It is disconcerting isn’ t it. I’ll have to admit to having to scratch my head and try to figure out what’s actually going on with some of these posters.

Ted Kennedy was one of the worst offenders of un-civil political discourse. What he did to Bork would never had been forgiven had Kennedy been a conservative and Bork been a liberal judge.
