February is American Heart Month, and our e-mail inboxes are filling up with information about all sorts of cardiovascular-related events, including a celebrity-studded game of Capture the Flag at UCLA.
Apparently, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, singer Natasha Bedingfield, actor Ryan Kwanten and others will serve as captains of CTF teams that will compete for money to fund heart research at UCLA and UC Davis. CTF games will also be played in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Boston, according to a news release.
The part that caught my eye was the source of the research money at stake in these games none other than Diet Coke.

If movie stars endorse it.....it’s gotta be true!
I don’t care what they say about it. I’m not giving up my lunchtime diet coke for anything!
I must be safe: I drink Diet Pepsi.
Jennifer Love Hewitt would give me a heart attack but what a way to go
The main problem with diet drinks imo is the sodium salt. Remove that and you might have something better. Rooting for Hewitt and Garfield.
LIFE!!!!
When my doctor told me to severly limit sodium as well as potassium I developed a taste for Oolong iced tea.
“The main problem with diet drinks imo is the sodium salt”
Yeah, that and the aspartame, which can cause all sorts of problems. Then there’s the phosphoric acid, which is bad for bone health.
Yeah, other than that I guess the water and the food coloring and flavoring is not so bad.
When my doctor told me that, I developed a taste for Yvonne Goolagong
Yup Jennifer Love Hewitt has that effect on me too
Here is one: Fructose-Sweetened Beverages Linked to Heart Risks.
However, the idea artificially sweetened foods cause obesity or heart disease is primarily anecdotal and based on correlation, not causation--"I see a fat person drinking a Diet Coke, so the Diet Coke must have made them fat." It is about as scientific as the belief maggots come from rotting meat.
That said, one needs to reduce their consumption of both naturally and artificially sweetened products to decrease one's "sweet tooth". This is why low sugar diets, like The South Beach Diet, limit consumption of artificially sweetened foods during the first phase.
Keep your eye on the ball, Krankor. You’re shwoing your age remebering that gal ... or maybe you’re an Aussie?

LOL! Ditto that!
Eat and drink a variety of food and beverages ,all in moderation. You’ll be fine. End of discussion.
Nope, I’m showing my age. For some reason, I actually remember a commercial she made where she’s playing tennis with her husband and their little boy cries out, “Mommy beat Daddy!”
Take a look at the Pepsi logo - revised ca 2008 - it is subliminal advertisement for “The One” - I’ll never drink Pepsi again.
