I don’t care what they say about it. I’m not giving up my lunchtime diet coke for anything!

The main problem with diet drinks imo is the sodium salt. Remove that and you might have something better. Rooting for Hewitt and Garfield.

What an asinine article. There is scientific research connecting consumption of sugars to high blood cholesterol, a precursor to coronary artery disease.

Here is one: Fructose-Sweetened Beverages Linked to Heart Risks.

However, the idea artificially sweetened foods cause obesity or heart disease is primarily anecdotal and based on correlation, not causation--"I see a fat person drinking a Diet Coke, so the Diet Coke must have made them fat." It is about as scientific as the belief maggots come from rotting meat.

That said, one needs to reduce their consumption of both naturally and artificially sweetened products to decrease one's "sweet tooth". This is why low sugar diets, like The South Beach Diet, limit consumption of artificially sweetened foods during the first phase.

The reason I drink an average of two diet cokes per day is that I don’t want three.

I haven’t read the comments yet but usually there’s a comment from a member addressing the issue of watching a fat person drinking a diet coke while downing donuts or some such.

I am not fat, I am 6 feet tall and weigh around 190 lbs. I am exactly where I want to be weight wise and I don’t even try.

I prefer the taste of diet rather than regular cola.

(and you couldn’t pay me to drink a Pepsi, diet or otherwise)
