Obama will go down in history as the president who lost Egypt

Jimmy Carter will go down in American history as "the president who lost Iran," which during his term went from being a major strategic ally of the United States to being the revolutionary Islamic Republic. Barack Obama will be remembered as the president who "lost" Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt, and during whose tenure America's alliances in the Middle East crumbled.

The superficial circumstances are similar. In both cases, a United States in financial crisis and after failed wars loses global influence under a leftist president whose good intentions are interpreted abroad as expressions of weakness. The results are reflected in the fall of regimes that were dependent on their relationship with Washington for survival, or in a change in their orientation, as with Ankara.

America's general weakness clearly affects its friends. But unlike Carter, who preached human rights even when it hurt allies, Obama sat on the fence and exercised caution. He neither embraced despised leaders nor evangelized for political freedom, for fear of undermining stability.

Obama began his presidency with trips to Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and in speeches in Ankara and Cairo tried to forge new ties between the United States and the Muslim world. His message to Muslims was "I am one of you," and he backed it by quoting from the Koran. President Hosni Mubarak did not join him on the stage at Cairo University, and Obama did not mention his host. But he did not imitate his hated predecessor, President George W. Bush, with blunt calls for democracy and freedom.

Obama apparently believed the main problem of the Middle East was the Israeli occupation, and focused his policy on demanding the suspension of construction in the settlements....

Let’s hope the damage isn’t as bad as the damage done by the President who lost Iran.

He is going to lose much more than Egypt if someone doesn’t stop him.

Sad thing is the Obungler’s mistakes will haunt us for decades just like Jimmah’s.

Don't ignore the fact that Clinton handed half the Balkans over to Muslims who had no legitimate claim to it other than the fact that once Islam controls an area they claim the right to control it forever. You elect a democrat to any Federal office and you're adding someone to the Federal level who will support the expansion of Islam worldwide. It's really that simple.

Turkey worries me more than Egypt. Whenever the Moslem world coalesces, Turkey’s in the center.

Clinton handed our military technology to China, too. The State Department trained the leaders of this “protest” in Egypt to overthrow the Egyptian government.

This little mess is going to result in the collapse of the dollar and our economy if oil supplies become a victim of Obama’s religion of pieces. Soros will be happy. He will finally get his global currency for his New World Order. And he could get a world war out of it, too.

The best laid plans of mice and men being what they are, he’s just as likely to get a ruptured duck he can’t manipulate any more and that will ruin a lot of what he’s already build.

I have a somewhat different take on this... the cold war has been over for 2 decades, but we still feel compelled to police the planet, promoting "democracy". Unfortunately, because of the precarious nature of much of the world post-Soviet Union, countries can only be stable under the leadership of dictators, including our closest allies. And, unfortunately, a lot of these guys live extravagant lifestyles amid the widespread poverty of most of their citizens.

So it isn't surprising that the population is frustrated and fed up. With the internet and cell phones pervasive, even in the poorest countries, it's easier to organize protest. Whatever happens in Egypt, it won't bode well if their population feels we're interfering. It is up to Mubarak to offer reform. And the Egyptians will sort out themselves who they want governing them. We aren't part of this equation.

‘His message to Muslims was “I am one of you,” and he backed it by quoting from the Koran.’

Maybe he is intentionally losing because he IS one of them.

It seems like he’s sure trying to.

Isn’t it quite a coinky-dink that in most of these cases, the wannabe revolutionaries are Taliban or something akin to it?

What´s worrying is that Haaretz is a left wing paper.

Still, let´s hope that this whole thing turns out not to be Iran II.

History should record the very irony of Obama trying to yield power of shutting down the internet while criticizing Egypt for doing the very thing.

Also, I am so sick to death of the media painting Bush as the devil as well as idiotic when it is the Obama Admin that cannot keep a cabinet or admin in place like mob rule and have the worst foreign geo politics, national security plans.

They dare to bash Palin and Bachmann for being ‘dumb.’

This WILL be Obama’s “POTATO” legacy...
