I so miss a leader like this man. In the 1980's I was just a kid, freshly graduated from high school. Yet, I loved Reagan...here I am years later I can now say why that man made me a better person...

He gave me dreams and the belief in my own ability to make them come true.

You are welcome...

So many things he discusses...

...many things he told us to watch out for and to do...

...and in many ways we failed. The part about education and informed patriotism...

We’re taking it back ...just now with the Tea Party, and 912’ers, and FR...

The best president in my lifetime.

I asked someone why he was so loved, and they told me this:

"He was like a loving Grandfather, and you knew he loved you and wanted the best for you. There was no doubt he was on your side. He became a part of the family."

The guy in the office now is like an uninvited guest who refuses to leave, and is making a mess and insulting you. And you know he's trying to find the silverware, check book, or your wallet. You just want to grab him by the collar , drag him out, and “talk” to him in the yard for a minute before the police come and save his ass. A real scuzbag.

He's more like the new guy your ultra moonbat liberal niece brings to the family event who looks down his nose at everybody, believes without a doubt he is the most intelligent smartest, brilliant guy in the room and everybody else are a step above moron and he has no problem being a condescending asshat

He also freely lets everybody know their opinion do not matter and he is the final authority on any opinion.

Turns his nose up at any thing below his self evaluated self esteem

Basically, at the end of the night every male in the house would love to give him the bums rush out the door by the seat of his pants and soundly kick him to the curb.

I think you got it. The classic arrogant little Euro snot who has never worked a day in his life, who shows up at the house and starts looking down at your family as if they are shit on his shoe. You bait him, just hoping he’ll take a swing at you so you can bust him up and drag him to the curb and put him in the can.

Indeed he is like the loving tough grandfather. Like I said, I was just a kid in the 1980’s.

And like I said he inspired me to never give up on myself...

The compare and contrast to today is very stark indeed.

Listening to his farewell address ...my heart just breaks for my country.

I just watched the video and I have tears in my eyes. He was one of us, for ever in our hearts.

May God protect us from the arrogant communist thugs in our White House, intent on destroying our nation and our freedom. Amen.

It is worth the 20 minutes or so to really listen to this address from start to finish. I don’t know how many FReepers will take the timeout today to that, but I hope if their willing to sit still for tomorrow’s football game...

take a few minutes and really revisit Reagan.

No shame in saying I wept openly while listening to this speech. For the beauty of his vision and for what we have lost.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 — President Reagan was termed in ‘’good spirits’’ after minor surgery today to correct a condition that had caused a curvature of the ring finger on his left hand. A White House spokesman said Mr. Reagan remained awake throughout the operation and chatted about horses with his doctors.

The surgery, performed under local anesthesia at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, began at 7:30 A.M. and was completed by 11 A.M., said Col. John E. Hutton Jr., the White House physician. ‘’The President is comfortable and completed the operation with flying colors,’’ Dr. Hutton said in a written statement. ‘’He was alert and responsive throughout the process.’’

The condition, which is not painful, is called Dupuytren’s (pronounced dew-pwee-TRANS) contracture. While its cause is unknown, it is common among white men over the age of 50 who are of Celtic or Northern European descent. Diseased Tissue Removed

A three-man team of orthopedic and plastic surgeons, assisted by Dr. Hutton, removed the diseased tissue that extended from the wrist to the tip of the ring finger in Mr. Reagan’s hand, the White House physician said.

They talk about 0bama’s oratory skill...

he can’t compare to Reagan. And that difference is Reagan was able to inspire the vast majority of Americans.

0bama doesn’t.

It’s painful to think that in 22 years, we have gone from this man and nation of “greatness” to an empty, shallow society and a President that’s only claim to fame are hollow cliche’s like “Hope and Change” and “Win the Future”.

How about getting our hands dirty with the hard work of Freedom - get down on our knees, ask God to forgive us and purge our national government of those who see America’s liberty more as a threat than the “bright beacon” Ronald Reagan referred to.

The election of 2012 is the time to call back to service “Reagan’s Regiments” - let the tsunami of real political change be felt across this once great land again.

May God forgive us for not being “good stewards” of the freedom for whom so many paid for with their lives.

Indeed at the end of the speech when Reagan talks about education and what challenges were heading our way...

We dropped the ball. We fumbled.

But the last two years we’ve seen the rebuilding of the team, Reagan’s Regiments and like the team that goes years in the losing column...one day, one season...they come out with all the right players, all the right plays, and at exactly the right time.

We can do this. We know that place, that city. Let us not forget those who fought and died, served, and died trying to get here.

You can’t hide freedom’s candle under a bushel basket, it will burn right through the basket and leave it in ashed on the ground.
