Microsoft says La Familia drug cartel is selling bootleg Office software
Los Angeles Times ^ | 2/5/11 | Nathan Olivarez-Giles

La Familia drug cartel is selling not just drugs, but also counterfeit Microsoft Office computer software, according the Redmond, Wash., tech giant.

Microsoft showed off unauthorized copies of its Office 2007 software in Paris today which the company said it found for sale in Mexico. The pirated copies of Office were marked with La Familia cartel's rectangular "FMM" logo that the Microsoft says proves the link between the counterfeiting and the organized crime group, according to a Bloomberg report.

"This is the real side, the scary side of counterfeiting and it plagues the world," said David Finn, Microsoft's associate general counsel for anti-piracy, according to Bloomberg.

Finn displayed the bootleg Microsoft software Friday at the Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy, the report said.

The International Chamber of Commerce said at the Paris event that, in the 20 nations that make up the G-20, the value of counterfeit and pirated goods was an estimated $650 million in 2008, according to Bloomberg.

That number is expected to rise to about $1.77 trillion by 2015, the report said.

Hey Bill Gates!!! Those drug cartels are made up of mostly poor people. Consider those bootleg products your contribution to “social justice!” Crybaby!

The more my enemies use Microsoft products, the more advantages Apple and Unix/etc users have.

Heh.

lol Let’s see.... these guys can import metric tons of cocaine into our country un-abated, and Micro soft wants to stop a dvd or a link? it would be more reasonable for MS to buy out the cartel...

I can see it now:

“Gimme two keys of the Cancun mild, two keys of the Mexican brown, and about a dozen copies of Office.”

So, if Bill Gates decided he REALLY wanted to take the cartels out, could he?

Bill Gates is a globalist open borders liberal.

But just like every other open borders liberal, he is reaping the consequences of his own myopia.

Gates would replace his entire American workforce if he could with cheap labor from India—and routinely lobbies congress for that right.

He doesn’t care if foreigners steal American jobs, so why should anybody care that the Mexicans are stealing his software?

Of course he could! Have you ever tried to run an enterprise, criminal or otherwise, on Vista?

LOL, Yeah Bill, would you rather have the cartels dealing in drugs, with the associated violence, or merely copying software?

Pretty sure that Washington DC politicians will get a lot more jacked about MS losing profits than they are about small farmers being overrun by illegals.

Uh, let's see: MS Office loss of sale costs Bill a couple of hundred bucks. Drug sales don't cost MS anything. Yeah, he'd rather have the cartels selling drugs.

Fence 1.0

Fence climbing by Bill avoids the topic of training unemployed American workers for "high tech" jobs. In these tough economic times, it would see Bill could find LOTS and LOTS of unemployed American workers to fill those jobs. Part of the "management" problem is they don't want to expend any time "training" skilled Americans for that work or paying them living wages.

Bill Gates: Tight immigration leads to outsourcing

Allowing more foreigners to work in the US would not steal jobs away from Americans. Instead, it would create more jobs for Americans. That's what Bill Gates told Congress today when he urged lawmakers to increase the number of visas available for high-skilled immigrants. The 65,000 H-1B visas granted this year were snatched up in one day, and Gates believes that the tight controls force companies to outsource jobs overseas.
