"Painful Conclusion": Senators Say FBI & DOD Could Have Prevented Ft. Hood Shooting
ABC News ^ | February 03, 2011 | Matthew Jaffe

Posted on 02/05/2011 2:26:29 PM PST by stevie_d_64

A new Senate report on the 2009 Fort Hood shooting blames the FBI and Department of Defense for failing to recognize or act on alleged shooter Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan’s extremist views.

The report, released today by Senate Homeland Security Committee chairman Joe Lieberman and ranking Republican Susan Collins, says the FBI and DOD could have prevented the shooting if they had identified Hasan’s radical Islamist views and disciplined or discharged him before the attack occurred.

“Our report’s painful conclusion is that the Fort Hood massacre could have and should have been prevented,” Lieberman said at a press conference today.

“The fact is that both the FBI and the Army were aware of Major Hasan,” Collins said. “This is not a case where a lone wolf was unknown to the FBI, unknown to the military officials, until he struck – and that is the tragedy of this case.”

We can't say it was Obama's fault because that would be racist, so it must be George W. Bush's fault... again.

As usual, if it’s real info, the source is the BLOGS section. As though to hide it.

I’m surprised the Senate came to the conclusion we all did on DAY 1.

...bullbutter...

But now that the media blames the folks that supposedly “knew” about Hassan, and that apparently they are culpable in those murders committed by Hassan...

Then charges need to be filed now...Might as well get it over with...

But then again, if any of us espouse an “extremist” view anywhere in public, we need to be charged with a crime in accordance with the new Hassan “Misunderstood Muslim” Protection Act of 2011...

Might as well make it a crime, the way the media is portraying it...

You know, they are smarter than any of us.../sa.../sar...Oh, fugetaboutit!!!

Obama told us to not to rush to judgment when his fellow Muslim Hasan murdered 13 soldiers.

Fast forward to this week and Obama is rushing to judgment to get rid of Mubarek so his fellow Muslim Brotherhood can fill the vacuum.

Every conservative and patriotic American should make an oath to keep telling their fellow Americans that Obama is bad for America and needs to be defeated. (Preferably in the 2012 Democrat Primary)

I think the rest of the country came to the same conclusion a couple days after the murders, when his former classmates came forward saying the guy was a nut, and they had reported such to superiors.

Hassan was an isolated incident which in no way casts a shadow across the thousands of other peaceful Nazis now serving as sleeper agents in the US Military without having fired a single shot at fellow soldiers. Yet.

“Every conservative and patriotic American should make an oath to keep telling their fellow Americans that Obama is bad for America and needs to be defeated.”

As you speak, king obuma is being de-fanged. In November, the Tea Party elected more than 700 patriots to state legislators who now completely control 26 states. This past week we saw the first step of a long journey to uproot 100 years of communist infestation - the federal court’s ruling that obuma deathcare is unconstitutional.

We’re about to see a thousand brushfires ignited that obuma’s criminal fascist syndicate has neither the manpower nor resources to control.

Keep the fires burning. Consider it a signal to attract more patriots to join the fight.

Susan Collins was on TV berating the Defense Dept. for promoting Hasan.

Of course, if they hadn’t promoted Hasan she’d be berating them for discrimination.

Damn politicians - they curse us with all this political correctness, and then when it goes tragically wrong they take none of the blame.

At least Merkel, Cameron, Sarkozy, and Singapore’s Lee Kwan Yew ( “We can integrate all religions and races except Islam.”) are at last speaking out.

"My only comment is that at the very least, the Military Police on any US Base should be armed—again"

Just to set the record straight, MPs are always armed on every installation - foreign & abroad (while on duty).

The problem is that the number of MPs deployed on US soil (and to a slightly lessor degree off US soil) has been steadily (and greatly) reduced since the early '90 draw-down. The have, in large part, been transitioned to either private security contractors, or deputized DoD police officers (as was the case at Ft. Hood).

The officers that are supposedly being disciplined, are not necessarily being charged with crime, just failing to do their duty to report the SoB. Course if they had, then they’d likely have been charged with hate crimes.

My only comment is that at the very least, the Military Police on any US Base should be armed—again, one armed person could have taken this guy out before he did as much damage as he did.

The military police at Ft. Hood are routinely armed, 9mm M9 pistols. The civilian post police are also armed. The contract gate guards are armed too. But there were none of them at the point of need. There were only ordinary soldiers, medical personnel (military and civilian) who would be punished, before or after the shootings, if they so much as had a weapon in their vehicles, let alone on or about their persons.

Just goes to show, Jihadies, like ordinary criminals, prefer unarmed victims.

In the end it was one of those civilian DoD policemen who dropped Hassan, who remains paralyzed as a result. However another cop, a marksmanship instructor, missed and was herself shot. She ended up in the same hospital I was in last summer for my two knee replacement surgeries. Had at least one of the same physical therapists there too.

She was thought not to be too badly injured, but she almost bled out on the way there. But it's not much farther from the scene than the military hospital would have been, especially time wise. She has permanent injuries that will prevent her from resuming her duties. She was moving to another post anyway to join her soldier husband. (She was a former soldier IIRC)

Only armed non police would have helped that day. Armed doctors, nurses, techs and clerks. (or contractor engineers :)) Along with some of the soldiers being processed through the facility. No different than the civilian world, there is rarely a cop at hand when the stuff hits the fan.

Both actually. But they, DoD police and private security gate guards are armed and were on 2009 Nov 5. I was there, I went through one of the gates while the thing was still somewhat going on. Then I got locked in until around 8 PM.

The problem is, no one other than the police/guards WHO WERE NOT ON THE SITE of the shooting, and the bad guy, was armed. It was and is prohibited. Never mind that many have Texas CHL licenses. Never mind that they are all trained with our tax dollars to handle weapons. Never mind that they do so routinely when deployed. Somehow, they can't be trusted to be armed at home station, unless out on the range.
