Anything is possible with voting patterns. And as I said, the environment is apolitical so the discussion doesn’t come up. The only indication I have other than personal contact with some of the members that makes me think it’s still mainly conservative is the general audience response that comes spontaneously when certain points are made in a sermon, particularly the two I mentioned that have occurred since the election, at which point Andy will try to assure us that he is not trying to point fingers at either side of the political aisle, clearly through the tone of laughter and like noise, the audience feels (primariy) a certain way. Imagine the Sunday after Georgia (the football team) wins a big game and its mentioned in the announcements, the reaction is sort of the same way with certain comments that support one political side (conservative). Sure there are some Alabama fans, a few Auburn fans who don’t agree, but the majority clap and cheer. Kind of the same thing on the few occasions when a political topic nudges its way in.

Your point about being swept up by the centrist image is a good one. I don’t think that is still the case but it is certainly possible that it was. In fact, God and Country and the 4th of July sermon might have been given because of the concern about Congress and POTUS and the tone of the discussion at the time.

I am curious to see what the view of the service will be next Sunday. It is likely to come up in the service since FLOTUS is speaking this Wed afternoon. I am happy to post again once I hear the reaction from the members.

Good food for thought. I will carefully consider that.

“Your point about being swept up by the centrist image is a good one. I don’t think that is still the case but it is certainly possible that it was.”

I sort of wondered if that might be the case. Maybe it took a year of Obama to get folks sobered up.

“I am happy to post again once I hear the reaction from the members.”

I would be interested to hear.

received a response to my email to the church..
Ms. Douglas stated that NO money or fee is involved...and
THE WHITE HOUSE REQUESTED THIS, to use their Facilities for the cause of the First Lady's initiative, Childhood Obesity.

They feel it is a chance to approach folks who do not attend a church and they have been assured that this event will NOT be political in its tone, which is something that North Point strategically does not do.

It will be shown at www.letsmove.gov...so I will watch and see what transpires...

wondering if they received alot of mail regarding this visit?? I betcha they did...

One thing that bothered a few people I have talked to is that it wasn’t just that she is using the facility but the event is being promoted on the website and emails were mailed out advertising the event. They even say that the audience will be made up of North Point congregation plus the other church congregation.

For the most part, it seems that people either don’t care or aren’t saying anything if they do. It makes my heart hurt.

If we won’t stand up against socialism in our own churches, what does that mean for 2012?

Doesn’t surprise me that Northpoint would be hosting it. Talk about a church thats a mile wide and an inch deep.

****That would be a pretty conservative congregation, I don’t think this is going to go over well.****

I visited there many years ago it kinda like a Rick Warren or Joel Osteen type church.

If I may throw in my 5 cents here. The church in located in the north of Atlanta area where the district tends to lean republican so it would not be to much of a stretch to speculate that most folks at this church probably voted republican.

You've stated that the person you cannot identify, who is in a position to know, has told you that a majority of North Point members voted for Obama.

What methodology was used to determine the members' votes?

This should be an easy answer. You won't have to identify anyone. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea. That was not discussed.

This is the response I got:

“We understand your concern. While we may not agree with the actions/politics of the President, when the White House called and asked if they could use our Facilities for the cause of the First Lady’s initiative, Childhood Obesity, our leaders prayerfully decided that we should show Grace and agree to the request. And we do trust our leaders.

We are assured that Wednesday’s event will not be political in its tone, which is something that North Point strategically does not do.

We believe that there will be people coming to this event that may not attend a church, or don’t know about the love that God has for them. We as a church, may be the beginning of them feeling safe enough to enter and attend our Sunday worship services. Do we think God is big enough to use this event to reach people for Him? You betcha! You can watch it live at www.letsmove.gov and see what happens.

Please join us in praying for God to work His miracles and signs for His Glory.

Blessings.”

“Do us a favor: Call your friend, find out and post the answer on this thread. “

I have never indicated the person was my “friend”.

This person is not someone I could just call up and question about church demographics.

This person is not someone I could just call up and question about church demographics.

Yet posting the person's name or the context in which you heard that a majority of the church's members voted for Obama will get you in trouble?

I can’t provide either the source or the context in which I heard it. To reveal either one would get me in trouble.

What kind of trouble, pray tell?

I am calling BS again. Who gets in trouble for posting the words of someone, who isn't their friend, at a high-level position at a church?

You don't know the person well enough to call them on the phone and ask them a question...yet you'll get in trouble for posting their words and attributing them to the person?

Maybe you should think about retracting your claim. You're posting hearsay and innuendo. Period.

Andy Stanley: The Cross is offensive, the Gospel is offensive, but church doesn't have to be offensive (go to 2:00). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If9SOmmvO5Q

Could it be that this is probably why the Dems love this guy, because he makes everyone feel good about themselves, because the Gospel and the Cross are left out, so as to not offend anyone. They can go to church and not worry they will be ashamed of their sins against God?

Indeed if you try to find a statement of Andy Stanley taking a stance against any particular type of sin, you will be hard pressed to find one.

IT seems to be a mushy let's all feel good about ourselves type of church rather than a church that brings the children unto God. How can one be forgiven if they know not their sins? If they feel good about the sins they are committing, because no one will guide them to the “offensive” cross or speak the “offensive” gospel, how will they ever “go and sin no more?”
