I’ve heard that conspiracy theory time and again, and it’s bull. If another major scourge could be wiped from the earth (as was the case for smallpox) then the people who would have perished or suffered from it go on to meet other maladies later in life. Competent doctors will never be wanting for business except when the market is distorted such as by Obamacare.
