Democratic Leadership Council will fold - Ben Smith: February 07, 2011

The Democratic Leadership Council, the iconic centrist organization of the Clinton years, is out of money and could close its doors as soon as next week, a person familiar with the plans said Monday.

The DLC, a network of Democratic elected officials and policy intellectuals had long been fading from its mid-'90s political relevance, tarred by the left as a symbol of "triangulation" at a moment when there's little appetite for intra-party warfare on the center-right. The group tried -- but has failed -- to remake itself in the summer of 2009, when its founder, Al From, stepped down as president. Its new leader, former Clinton aide Bruce Reed, sought to remake the group as a think tank, and the DLC split from its associated think tank, the Progressive Policy Institute.

But Reed left the DLC last year himself to serve as Vice President Joe Biden's chief of staff, leaving Ed Gresser, a trade expert, to lead the group in the interim. Since then the board "hasn't been able to find someone who wanted to come on in a permanent capacity," a person familiar with the group's woes said, with the central problem the difficulty of raising money for a Democratic group that isn't seen as an ally of the White House.

Gresser declined to comment on the DLC's future, and referred a call to From, who didn't immediately respond to a message left with an assistant.

The DLC is already showing signs of disrepair.

I say fine. If they get rid of all of the moderates, we should not see a Democratic president in power in our children’s future, and possibly forever.

Democratic Leadership Council will fold

Due to lack of intelligence.

DLC = Potemkin Village. It was never ‘real’ to begin with. Simply a shake ‘n bake organization to give Bill Clinton the appearance of some leadership credentials.

All their water carrying spin doctors will just move over to another of Soro’s hate projects. And then of course, brag about their job hunting prowess.

“Soon to be replaced by the Progressive Leadership Council”

Actually, it’s called the “progressive Policy Institute”, or “Third Way”..

Seems like the progressive moonbat radical socialist left has drove the nail into coffin of the center left democratic party.

This is actually very good for us.

Lots of blue dog democrats now have no voice except to either agree with the likes of Pelosi and her contingent of wackos or start leaning center right and voting that way

Used by Bubba to provide a patina of centrism when he was running for the presidency, then cast aside like his latest bimbo when no longer needed.

“Like many of you last month, I watched the giant masquerade ball at Madison Square Garden — where 20,000 radicals and liberals came dressed up as moderates and centrists — in the greatest single exhibition of cross-dressing in American political history.”

Buchanan, Aug ‘92

In 2024, after 12 years of GOP presidents, some young governor will run as a Moderate DEM and try the cross-dressing act again.

The partisan media shills even gave it a nice obit. Thanks Sub-Driver.

Even LA Democrats like the attorney general, Buddy Caldwell, have given up and switched. But there’s still Mary Landrieu to rally the faithful, and her brother Mitch too.

Didn’t Norman Thomas, grandfather of columnist Evan Thomas, say that both parties had adopted his socialist platform?

I came across that statement as well, that both parties had, collectively, incorporated all the socialist platform,

but I'm not sure if it was Norman or some other honest socialist that said it.

Here's what I found:

The Socialist Party candidate for President of the US, Norman Thomas, said this in a 1944 campaign speech:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every principle of our socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without ever knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run on the Socialist Party ticket because the Democrat Party has now adopted our platform."

Considering it was ostensibly populated by “centrist” democrats, it only makes sense it would fold. Show me a “centrist” democrat and I’ll show you one that hasn’t been elected to national office yet.

They gave the far, far, far lefty moonbats at DU and MoveOn.org a focus for hate within their own party.

"I challenge anyone to come up with a single real achievement by this group."

They would contend that the welfare reform of the mid 1990s was one of their achievments.
