Icelandic volcano 'set to erupt' (Bardabinga)
Daily Telegraph ^ | Feb 8th, 2011 | Staff

Scientists in Iceland are warning that another volcano looks set to erupt and threatening to spew-out a pall of dust that would dwarf last year's event....

Geologists detected the high risk of a new eruption after evaluating an increased swarm of earthquakes around the island's second largest volcano.

Pall Einarsson, a professor of geophysics at the University of Iceland, says the area around Bárdarbunga is showing signs of increased activity, which provides "good reason to worry".

He told the country's national TV station that a low number of seismometer measuring devices in the area is making it more difficult to determine the scale and likely outcome of the current shifts.

But he said there was "every reason to worry" as the sustained earthquake tremors to the north east of the remote volcano range are the strongest recorded in recent times and there was "no doubt" the lava was rising.

The geologist complained that the lack of coverage from measuring devices means he cannot accurately detect the depth and exact location of the increased number of localised earth movements.

Tough place to live when your country is objectively the most likely to be destroyed by a volcano(s). Of course plate tectonics was unknown until recently or several spots on the world wouldn’t have populations.

The idiot democrats are crushing our economy with their insane socialist EPA regulations and fines, while nature produces far, far greater emissions.

And the funny this is that these volcanos tend to cool the planet rather then causing warming.

And the REALLY funny thing is they have used the excuse of “and if it weren’t for the series of volcanoes in 20XX the warming would have been much larger”!

A 4mi wide mouth on that monster? Supervolcano indeed! That one ripping off would be BAD. As in possibly millions killed bad.

Scary.

...Bardabunga north-west side of Vatnajökull and the Eyjafjallajökull...

The Icelandic language (or whatever it is called) is just as hard to pronounce as Arabic, but a thousand times nicer. I wonder if there is even a word for beheading in Icelandic.

“a word for beheading in Icelandic”

...only as it relates to fish.

I believe that one was called Kyatla. That is the one considered the “sister” volcano.

100% correct. Vulcanism is believed to be a possible precipitant for the regularly scheduled Ice Ages in Earth history, of which we are long overdue.

That unpronouncable volcano in Iceland put out a lot of stuff last April/May, which I suspect may have at least a little to do with this Winter's patterns. Another one going off could make for some interesting shifts for a while. Of course they'll still say Global Climate Change (tm) is the only cause.

Actually, the Icelanders form of capital punishment was to throw the criminal into the hot spring. Not sure when they stopped doing that. It started when the did the Allthing, an early form of representative government.
