Want Plastic? It Will Cost You 5 Cents (except people on food stamps)
NBC Connecticut ^

Posted on 02/08/2011 5:01:27 PM PST by matt04

If you don't bring your own bag when you shop for groceries, it could cost you a nickel for every disposable plastic or paper bag you fill.

State lawmakers from the Environment Committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss a bill calling for proceeds to be collected to go toward municipal recycling programs.

Reusable bags, bags used to cover dry cleaning and those used to protect delivered newspapers would be exempt from the fee.

People on food stamps would also not be charged.

So because I am able to manage my money and don't need government assistance I get a extra tax. And why are towns and cities in the trash disposal business?

here’s a novel thought, those on food stamps and Govt freebies should only get fish, veggies and fruit. This way MO can have her healthy cut the fat program reach more.

Yea yea yea I know they won’t as the people who are on this will not come out and vote for the left again, they’re got to have their junk food paid by us you know.

As for paying for plastic, so why not them? They get a pass saving the planet what utter more lefty crap

IIRC, it turns out those reusable bags tend to be full of nasties after a short while. Viruses and bacteria, etc.

I also recall some communities trying the bag fee and it not working out well.

I don’t think the food stamp exemption will pass the smell test by the Feds. Better check that one out with a lawyer.... Hopefully, a lawyer that can read English.

First they whined about paper bags.
Now they’re whining about plastic bags.
But those reusable bags can harbor fungi and bacteria.

Will they also charge for produce bags as well? Or the produce bags I use to double wrap meat so it doesn’t bleed on my other food?

I have seen some of the cloth reusable bags people bring into the stores. They can be pretty grody.

The food stamp consumer/thief already gets a pass on taxes that you and I have to pay on certain products.

Wouldn't want to offend the left wing press.

Before they were yelling about saving the trees. Ok, since that worked so well let’s ban plastic. Admittedly they’re nasty things the way they’re all over the place. Go charge that nickle but get it back when you return it. Or buy your own.

The ultimate goal is to require people to buy no more food than they can carry in their hands.

These idiot lefties won’t be happy until there is a civil war with the public. People are pissed off enough over the price of groceries let alone this proposed idiotic fee for bags.

Ah yes, the old Soviet style of grocery shopping.
Bread line is only open until 4.
Meat line is only open until 4.
Etc etc etc.

On the other coast, Washington state demands their fuel tax, even from electric vehicles.

I never wanted the damn plastic! It collapses on the floor of the car or back of the truck and everything rolls out. It comes from high-tower petroleum and competes with fuel use of petroleum. It tears and drops groceries on the ground.

If the store won't provide any container then I will go to another store. Or I'll order my groceries online and have it shipped in a cardboard box.

Connecticut has a Democrat-infested legislature.

There is now a Democrat nanny in the Governor’s office.

There are no longer any adults in charge.

You can count on even more idiocy as time goes on.
