An immigration officer tried to rid himself of his wife by adding her name to a list of terrorist suspects.
He used his access to security databases to include his wife on a watch list of people banned from boarding flights into Britain because their presence in the country is 'not conducive to the public good'.
As a result the woman was unable for three years to return from Pakistan after travelling to the county to visit family.
The tampering went undetected until the immigration officer was selected for promotion and his wife name was found on the suspects' list during a vetting inquiry.
The Home Office confirmed today that the officer has been sacked for gross misconduct.
The incident is likely to raise new questions over levels of efficiency in the UK Border Agency, the organisation formed nearly three years ago by then Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to take over all immigration controls.
It has been criticised for poor performance by the Parliamentary Ombudsman and has suffered its share of humiliating incidents - for example the incident 19 months ago when an illegal immigrant escaped from the channel tunnel port at Folkestone by clinging to the underside of a bus carrying Border Agency staff.

All good things come to an end Laddie.
She's back now and there'll be hell to pay.
Ingenious!
Self fulfilling prophecy. When she gets home, she will be a terror!
Your tag line is inspired genius, probably the wittiest, most clever ever!
wait until obummer unionizes TSA, that story will be a like Dick and Jane book
His wife's name was Micheal Savage?
If the sexes had been reversed, she would have been praised as a feminist hero.
It would have been easier just to have a relative in Pakistan kill her or say the magic islamic phrase 3 times to divorce her.
Coming from the original Man of Steel I humbly thank you.
My first thought as well.....mike savage will be pleased to get new rant material....lol !
That’s a very good point. I’m trying to visualize what this woman must have gone through traumatized by it all. You go through all the hassle of trying to get on a plane these days only to be tagged a terrorist, taken off the plane into the arms of brutish governmental agents, endure the extensive interrogation, pained exhortations of denial, the uncertainty, anxiety of thinking what could go wrong, prolonged isolation, weeks at a time, multiply that by a conservative factor of say, 6 times a year times for three years, to get an idea what she had to endure.
Would that have prevented her from flying to France and taking the Chunnel?
Hey, you at least have to admire the guy’s creativity!
For sure! He had the perfect scheme going. Just goes to show that it doesn’t pay to exert yourself too much at work. It just occurred to me that maybe that’s why he tried so hard at work to make sure he wouldn’t be fired, figuring the job may be crap but the benefits were great! Thanks for your comment.
