Several sources familiar with the ongoing investigation tell WTOP fire and police investigators believe the radiator in Turton's 2008 BMW X5 was punctured when it rolled into a workbench. The halogen headlights, which emit a bluish light and illuminate the road better than conventional headlights, stayed on after the radiator was punctured.

From the MSDS for Propylene glycol:

"Section 5: Fire and Explosion Data Flammability of the Product: May be combustible at high temperature. Auto-Ignition Temperature: 371°C (699.8°F) Flash Points: CLOSED CUP: 99°C (210.2°F). OPEN CUP: 107°C (224.6°F) (Cleveland). Flammable Limits: LOWER: 2.6% UPPER: 12.5% Products of Combustion: These products are carbon oxides (CO, CO2). Fire Hazards in Presence of Various Substances: Slightly flammable to flammable in presence of heat. Explosion Hazards in Presence of Various Substances: Risks of explosion of the product in presence of mechanical impact: Not available. Risks of explosion of the product in presence of static discharge: Not available. Fire Fighting Media and Instructions: SMALL FIRE: Use DRY chemical powder. LARGE FIRE: Use water spray, fog or foam. Do not use water jet. Special Remarks on Fire Hazards: When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes."

From the MSDS for Ehtylene Glycol:

"5. Fire Fighting Measures Fire: Flash point: 111C (232F) CC Autoignition temperature: 398C (748F) Flammable limits in air % by volume: lel: 3.2; uel: 15.3 Slight to moderate fire hazard when exposed to heat or flame. Explosion: Above flash point, vapor-air mixtures are explosive within flammable limits noted above. Containers may explode when involved in a fire. Fire Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical, foam or carbon dioxide. Water or foam may cause frothing. Water spray may be used to extinguish surrounding fire and cool exposed containers. Water spray will also reduce fume and irritant gases. Special Information: In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode. Toxic gases and vapors may be released if involved in a fire."

Because of the lower toxicity in Propylene glycol, many anti freeze manufacturers use that product.

They ruled out “foul play?”

The halogen headlights, which emit a bluish light and illuminate the road better than conventional headlights, stayed on after the radiator was punctured.

The autopsy into Jan. 10 death of Turton, a lobbyist for Progressive Energy and wife of a senior aide to President Barack Obama, is still pending, but investigators believe she was stricken and unconscious before the fire ignited.

(snip)

From the start, investigators have not suspected foul play.

I think the family has money. My point being only the rich would think of setting up a foundation instead of looking to Medicaid, the new health care standard of obama-no-care.

IOW, the best health care money can buy.

Does it usually take so long for an autopsy?

The DC coroner had such a backlog a few years ago that the Post wrote an expose. I'm not surprised to hear they haven't caught up.

Bad writing. The results are still pending. The autopsy was performed very soon after death. They are still cooking the books and destroying the skull xrays that show a “snowstorm of metal and a hole 0.45in. in diameter” a la Ron Brown.

Actually that’s not the “original” thread. That’s a “related” thread. This is a different article, with additional information, published on a different website, regarding the same incident.

It looks like the original thread to me. Posted on Jan 10.

Regarding the Duke Energy/Progress Energy merger announced that day:

Merger of Duke Energy and Progress Energy would create largest U.S. utility
"As chief executive of the Charlotte-based Duke Energy, James F. Rogers has become a familiar face in Washington over the past three years, playing his part in the futile effort to forge a cap-and-trade scheme to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

But with climate legislation moribund, Rogers has turned to breathing more life into his own company. On Monday, Duke Energy announced a $13.7 billion merger deal with Raleigh, N.C.-based Progress Energy, forging the largest utility in the United States with 7.1 million customers and 57,000 megawatts of power generation capacity. Hmmmmm...let’s see, just how many ways could she have been rendered “....stricken and unconcious...”? Obviously, inquisitive minds are interested in preparing a listing so that proper conclusions can be drawn...../s

Or the x-ray machine the D.C. coroner uses, which was just tested and certified A-OK a month ago, is still malfunctioning ala Vince Foster.

Oh yeah, they work great! Nevermind that drivers in oncoming lanes need sunglasses at night to deal with them!

Actually, the new technology will make those Xenon lights obsolete. Directional LED will still provide the same annoying light, but will be better directed through dynamic lenses. Even better still is the HUD and infra-red night-vision systems where the camera picks up things difficult to see with any lighting (like giant antlered rats) and projects it on the windscreen.

We can all drive at night like The Terminator.

My point being only the rich would think of setting up a foundation...

If they're all pitching in to help, as my family would although we're far from wealthy, a foundation is probably the best way to administer the money.
