For the second consecutive day, House Republicans on Wednesday lost a floor vote due to a mini-revolt, this time over a plan to demand a repayment from the United Nations. Earlier in the day, members of the party’s conservative bloc used a closed-door party meeting to push the leadership to go well beyond its plans to trim about $40 billion from domestic spending and foreign aid this year, demanding $100 billion or more

Agreed. The Old Guard’s been a surprised by the Freshmen’s willingness to flex their muscles. Good. We need fundemental change to the business as usual budgeting mentality that exists in DC today. The status quo is not sustainable and we need change NOW! Looks to me like our new Reps realize that and are willing to fight for it...fight their own leadership if need be.
The first is from Yahoo news yesterday, and now this from the Times. And notice in the Times article, it shows a picture of Boenher, Cantor, and McCarthy leaving the WH after the lunch with the enemy yesterday. As far as I can see that image has nothing what-so-ever to do with the content of this article. Why put it there? imo, the phrases, the images etc are designed to inflame and it is a concerted effort.
We're going to be bombarded with this type of rhetoric and they (MSM) will try their level best to orchestrate a problem where no problem exist, which should surprise noone.
Outside of a few... the old timer republicans in the House are just as responsible for our debt as the dims... so it is great that new blood is drawing blood... THIS IS WAR!

As for as the NYT sowing disunity among the GOP ranks...good! We need a little disunity!!! The leadership needs to know that they can NOT take our votes for granted and they're getting that message loud and clear. If the NYT is happy about that...who cares? It will make US stronger in the long run.
Now there's a trade agreement...Trade American jobs for what??? For whom??? And then pay the former workers with tax payer's money for not working...
And the morons can't figure out why someone would object to that...
STILL, a drop in the bucket! Zero has added TRILLIONS in the last two years. We need to be talking about cuts that are approaching 1 TRILLION, if not more!
Well part of the problem here is the assumption that conservatives view Republicans as any more trustworthy then the NYT’s. We don’t. I might even slightly take the NYT’s over the word of a Republican is only because if there is something Republicans don’t want out there because it would hurt them with the base I know the NYT’s will gleefully report it.
I’m not naive to their reporting though. As eager as they are to destroy Republicans they frequently make up facts too. Except numerous ideological outlets have reported the failed floor votes.
They are reporting them as a bad thing of course. I see it as nothing but a positive.

This is the kind of entrenched attitude I hate and I hope the freshman aren’t corrupted by it and “find their way” to screwing us over like the establishment has so often done.
Bills should not be expediated. They should be read in full, debated,and voted accordingly. If I ad my way and I believe te leadership made vague promises to the effect that bills would no longer be lumped together but voted issue by issue. They promised to make 100B in cuts and while that is small it’s a start and they should keep their word. Still hoping for mutiny on passing a rise in the debt ceiling.
I would like to correct the NYT’s. The Republicans were not successful in making cutting the budget an issue. The People made it an issue.
The Times no doubt loves Republican fractiousness. But I might remind them that fights, especially over fundamental issues, is a sign of life. The party is ALIVE with turmoil, while Democrats are moribund.

in typical fashion, the NY Times neglects to tell you that these were being voted on under suspension of the rules, which requires a 2/3 majority. And that gave plenty of Democrats who had previously voted Aye a chance to flip-flop and create some mischef. Both items will likely pass with a simple majority under normal procedures. Not a good sign though that Boehner apparently never saw this coming.
