Obama cautious as violent protests sweep Tehran

TEHRAN, Iran — Violence flared across Iran on Monday with the first reported death from anti-government riots, as hundreds of thousands of defiant Tehranis took to the streets demanding "Where is my vote?" after Friday's disputed presidential election.

The unrest, possibly Iran's worst political crisis since the 1979 Islamic revolution, confounded predictions that the regime would be able to contain the fallout from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's unexpected claim of a landslide victory.

President Barack Obama spoke cautiously in his first comments about the election, in an apparent attempt to preserve his initiative for direct diplomacy with Iran on a range of issues, including its nuclear program.

He said he was "deeply troubled" by the violence against the protesters, but that it was "up to Iran to determine its own leaders," and as "odious as I consider some of President Ahmadinejad's statements," he was determined to continue pursuing "tough, direct dialogue."

...it was "up to Iran to determine its own leaders"

Don't forget - the rookie Hussein is to the LEFT of the socialist Bernie Sanders.

Today - "People are calling for change."

...just as long as the Muslims can gain power.

Now that I think of it, during that period we didn’t hear the label “Muslim Brotherhood” lofted even once.

And Obama NEVER suggested a peaceful transition, or their involvement in that transition. In fact, I don’t think the word transition was ever uttered by the Obama team.

Can’t wait to hear what Rush has to say about the latest development in Egypt.

Mubarak makes zero look like the moron he is.

it wasn’t, curious isn’;t it how Obama chose Cairo to make his speech
How Ayers and wife has been over there since that speech many times.
How code pink is now over there.
How left wing groups, Soros groups and unions from around the world are sending messages to the protesters.

Then obama said nothing about transition with Iran.
CIA, said they told this admin repeatedly that this was about to happen.
Our corrupt biased media have never told an ounce of truth about all of this.

Must be an amazing coincidence hey

Obama blew Iran... the Mullah's had airplanes on the runways ready to run... then Obama declared his "neutrality". It's a shame that Obama did not have the same "neutrality" when Honduras constitutionally removed its socialist, Hugo wannabe president. Now Egypt... what an embarrassment.

It took four years for Carter to have 3 foreign policy disasters!

32 years to the week Carter threw the Shah under the bus, as Obama threw Mubarak under the bus.

But we have only 633 days left to throw Obama under the bus.

Ironic that the Shah exiled to Egypt.

Re: [Obama] ...said he was "deeply troubled" by the violence against the protesters, but that it was "up to Iran to determine its own leaders..."

Yet our fearless leader now says he decides that it is time for Mubarak to go!

Where was Obama when... I died for freedom in Iran?

Mubarak is right on one thing when he says, "I Am an Arab Warrior, not a Community Organizer."

God help Egypt, Israel and the United States! With Obama at the helm, we certainly need all the help when can get!

Obama was against Bush's 'transition' to democracy in Iraq.
Obama never called for transition to democracy in Iran when there were protests there in 2009.
We have never heard from Obama a call for a transition to democracy in North Korea, Cuba, or Venezuela.
Yet, in Egypt, where we have had an ally that was a stabilizing force in the Middle east for over three decades - bam, we need immediate transition to... something or other.

The kid is in over his pay grade, I'm afraid.

Iran is part of the Russia-Chavez-ChiCom alliance.

"Chavez pledged that his country would 'stay by Iran at any time and under any condition,' state television reported. Ahmadinejad said he saw in Chavez a kindred spirit." "'We do not have any limitation in cooperation,' Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying. 'Iran and Venezuela are next to each other and supporters of each other. Chavez is a source of a progressive and revolutionary current in South America and his stance in restricting imperialism is tangible.'":

In the context of his eagerness to overthrow an ally, what he did not do for Iranians is despicable and immoral.

If I were an overly emotional person devoid of any reasoning ability I would find myself feeling sorry for our Grifter-in-chief for the spot he has put himself in by saddling up to our countries sworn enemies and back stabbing our allies. Instead, I fear for the future of the USA as Carters evil twin continues to play community organizer by tearing down the very attributes that contribute to our exceptionalism that has drawn millions of citizens from around the world for over 200 years.

We knew how bad Saddam Hussein was for years, if not decades. We know how bad Kim Jong-il is, its no secret. The excesses of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Castro, and Chavez are well documented. But for some reason, one of our allies, who for thirty years has never had the reputation of being one of the world's worst dictators - has to go NOW.

Egypt has recently become a net importer of petroleum. Before this time, Egypt has used oil money to subsidize food for the Egyptian people. Food prices are up, subsidies are gone, and the people are protesting. To my eyes, this is the same thing as what happened in Greece. Perhaps Greece's government should be overthrown.
