Interview Raises Questions Over Weapons Of Mass Effect In SD
10 News San Diego ^ | 2/10/11 | Staff

10News was granted access to San Diego's seaport for a firsthand look at how Customs and Border Protection officers safeguard against weapons of mass effect.

"Given the open waterways and the access to the Navy fleet here, I'd say, absolutely, San Diego is a target," said Al Hallor, who is the assistant port director and an officer with Customs and Border Protection.

10News investigative reporter Mitch Blacher asked, "Do you ever find things that are dangerous like a chemical agent or a weaponized device?"

"At the airport, seaport, at our port of entry we have not this past fiscal year, but our partner agencies have found those things," said Hallor.

Customs and Border Protection officers clear 80 percent of all cargo before it enters the United States. Congress has mandated that they clear 100 percent of cargo imports by 2012. In San Diego, every cargo container is driven through a radiation detector before leaving San Diego's seaport.

"So, specifically, you're looking for the dirty bomb? You're looking for the nuclear device?" asked Blacher. "Correct. Weapons of mass effect," Hallor said. "You ever found one?" asked Blacher. "Not at this location," Hallor said. "But they have found them?" asked Blacher. "Yes," said Hallor.

The two primary targets for nuclear attack on the west coast are San Diego and Bremerton, Washington. This is because they are the only two deep water friendly ports in the Pacific that can provide a full range of services to our carrier fleets.

So, for example, if China wanted to invade Taiwan, it would first need to disable these two ports and a large percentage of the US Pacific fleet. Then they would launch a flotilla of ships to take as many soldiers to Taiwan as fast as possible, before the arrival of the US Atlantic fleet, because once they were in Taiwan, they would be impossible to dislodge by the US without massive numbers of civilian casualties. The Taiwanese would be on their own.

Granted Chinese casualties would be staggering in such an invasion, as high as 90% of their landing force, but that would be typical for such an effort.

The US is aware of this possibility, however, and has a major exclusion perimeter from our west coast, several hundred miles, in case the Chinese, or a rogue state, attempted to launch missiles from a ship platform.

The only other typical attempt would be to smuggle in nuclear weapons in a shipping container. And it would be extremely hard to disguise a radioactive signature that size.

This could be the reason for all the FEMA build up lately.

Yep. Hard to keep it fed; you just have to manage that resource carefully. There are a couple of times in the game when it really, reallly makes a difference.

He was not, clearly he was very nervous because he is unaccustomed to lying. He did not want to divulge what he knew.

How sloppy can the government get?!

No, I’m not referring to the link about the certainty and effects of nuclear terrorist attacks on US soil because of the policies and inadequacies of our esteemed Feds.

What I am referring to is the unbelieveable sloppiness demonstated by the fact that the gov would put an honest man - so obviously uncomfortable and unskilled at the fine Federal arts of lying and dissembling - in a position of authority, and let him get in front of a camera. Truly shocking!

Well, one thing is for sure, he won’t be there in that position again. He damaged their cover well enough with that interview. I doubt that he will be allowed to give any more.

What is interesting is that in the background you could hear a woman talking about what information he should be limiting his answers to. She said that they would get further information to the reporter regarding the rest. I wonder if there are going to be any follow ups by the news agency.

They did a great job, too bad that the MSM didn’t pick up on it and pressure the administration for details.

So big Sis wasn't just backing TSA unionization - there IS a major threat? Maybe a nuke threat? Scary.
