Mexico crop loss 80 to 100 percent

Here's an announcement to its customers that I'm told came directly from Sysco Foods.

ALL OF OUR GROWERS HAVE INVOKED THE ACT OF GOD CLAUSE ON OUR CONTRACTS (Force majuere) DUE TO THE FOLLOWING RELEASE. WE WILL BE CONTACTING YOU PERSONALLY TO REVIEW HOW THIS WILL AFFECT OUR CONTRACTED ITEMS WITH YOU GOING FORWARD.

THE DEVASTATING FREEZE IN MEXICO IS WORST FREEZE IN OVER 50 YEARS...

THE EXTREME FREEZING TEMPERATURES HIT A VERY BROAD SECTION OF MAJOR GROWING REGIONS IN MEXICO, FROM HERMOSILLO IN THE NORTH ALL THE WAY SOUTH TO LOS MOCHIS AND EVEN SOUTH OF CULIACAN. THE EARLY REPORTS ARE STILL COMING IN BUT MOST ARE SHOWING LOSSES OF CROPS IN THE RANGE OF 80 TO 100%.

EVEN SHADE HOUSE PRODUCT WAS HIT BY THE EXTREMELY COLD TEMPS. IT WILL TAKE 7-10 DAYS TO HAVE A CLEARER PICTURE FROM GROWERS AND FIELD SUPERVISORS, BUT THESE GROWING REGIONS HAVEN'T HAD COLD LIKE THIS IN OVER A HALF CENTURY.

THIS TIME OF YEAR, MEXICO SUPPLIES A SIGNIFICANT PERCENT OF NORTH AMERICA'S ROW CROP VEGETABLES SUCH AS: GREEN BEANS, EGGPLANT, CUCUMBERS, SQUASH, PEPPERS, ASPARAGUS, AND ROUND AND ROMA TOMATOES.

FLORIDA NORMALLY IS A MAJOR SUPPLIER FOR THESE ITEMS AS WELL BUT THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN STRUCK WITH SEVERE FREEZE DAMAGE IN DECEMBER AND JANUARY AND UP UNTIL NOW HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE PRODUCT OUT OF MEXICO TO FILL THEIR COMMITMENTS, THAT IS NO LONGER AND OPTION.

WITH THE SERIES OF WEATHER DISASTERS THAT HAS OCCURRED IN BOTH OF THESE MAJOR GROWING AREAS WE WILL EXPERIENCE IMMEDIATE VOLATILE PRICES, EXPECTED LIMITED AVAILABILITY, AND MEDIOCRE QUALITY AT BEST.

THIS WILL NOT ONLY HAVE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT ON SUPPLIES, BUT BECAUSE OF VERY STRONG BLOSSOM DROPS, THIS WILL ALSO IMPACT SUPPLIES 30 – 60 DAYS FROM NOW...

Yep, the Italian skillet I made last night with fresh bell peppers certainly tasted Orthorish.

Imagine the impact on food production if, for the next couple of decades, each winter is just a bit worse than the last one. This one already reached deep into Mexico. Now imagine a frost in early June in areas that normally don’t see one after late April.

That's what I was wondering. It's only a matter of time before the colder weather really begins to bite. Enjoy the jokes while you can.

A: On the odd time the stock pusher's right, you actually get money.

Don't worry... it grows like a weed.

Is marijuana an annual or perennial?

Where do you get these pseudo-inspirational poster pictures that are so funny? Do you make them up yourself? If so, thanks!

"” If there is a global reduction in harvests, leading to higher prices, then in the US we will just have to pay higher prices. In the Third World, when food prices exceed income and people face starvation, expect MAJOR unrest and mass migration (illegal immigration) to the West. “

Here are some numbers I remember reading in an article about 3-4 months ago:

Percent Of Income Spent On Food

* US - 9%

* China - 39%

* Nigeria - 70%

Understand that the loss of these vegetable imports from Mexico will put price pressure on the vegetables that are still available here.

BTW, 'I Like Ike.'

Border Patrol agents seized over 14,455 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested four criminal aliens and eight gang members. There were eight rocking incidents.

80 to 100%?

That’s going to leave a hyper-inflated mark.

Are you "series?" It's an annual.

Yep, I was series. Never grew it and don't think I've ever seen it growing anywhere. It's not part of my diet.

” Percent Of Income Spent On Food “

Remember that here in the good ol U. S. of A., food and fuel are inextricably linked, moreso than perhaps anywhere else in the world....

Not only is our food transported longer distances, but our indigenous farming industry is the most mechanized in the world - and we-the-people, as a rule, travel (drive) farther to markets, and buy and store more food at a time, than other peoples....

Point being that the numbers you posted are pretty much meaningless, and perhaps grossly misleading, since they don’t incorporate many essential factors.....

Today, I saw a revised low for OK of -31....but, given the accuracy of our news media, I take it with a grain of salt!

Fortunately, we have the Central Valley and Imperial Valley in California.

It is a good thing that the Federal Government hasn't shorted them water in interest of the snail darter or anything like that!
