If it's imposed by Government and backed up by the threat of force if you don't pay, it's a tax.

every decree at every layer of gobmint is enforced at the muzzle of a rifle...

most people dont think it thru to the logical conclusion, that if they dont comply, they will die...

There was a prophecy back in the late 70s that there would come a tax on churches in later decades. It would start out as a small nuisance tax, but quickly grow to be a church-killing tax.

If this tax survives a court challenge, it could spread.

Personally I would think that we are near the point where we must have an open discussion on the entire fiscal framework leading to major reform of all Taxes/fees aka revenue.
First stop IMO is to end non-profit/tax exemption for ALL organizations and these should become part of this discussion.

Whether tax or fee, they are still charging people to go to church. IOW, they are putting a burden on free exercise.

So, how do these b0z0s get re-elected?

Because the freeloaders often outnumber the taxpayers. Though in this case, that isn't true. Unless people believe that a tax on business isn't passed on to the consumer. Or in this case, they don't believe that an unconstitutional tax on the number of chairs in a church is a tax on people that practice their religion.

"This is not a tax," She said in a telephone interview. "This is a fee."

A fee to use your own property? I could buy that if it was for the use of public facilities.

Well, as long as it's a fee and not a tax.

“This is not a tax,” She said in a telephone interview. “This is a fee.”

I live in Oregon. We are one of the highest fee’d states in the country.

Whenever you question the tax situation, they always come back with, “It’s not a tax...it’s a fee.”

There’s no difference, IMO.

The fact that they would do this to churches, and the amount of the “fee” depends on how many cars use the driveway, well.......they will soon find many cars clogging up the streets.

More power to them...

The future goal tied into the transportation infrastructure initiative 0bama mentioned in the State of the Union is to transition to a usage tax. When gas tax is no longer a source of revenue for the State the usage tax will replace it. They will attempt to instate a tax to enter into cities to work and live.

Whats next, a window tax? A chimney tax? A porch tax?

They must be pretty desperate for revenue.
