Obama: Washington should cut back like average (shovel-ready) families do

Obama: Washington should cut back like average families do
By Andrew Restuccia - 02/12/11 06:00 AM ET

President Obama said Saturday that his upcoming budget will force Washington to “live within our means” at a time when American families are having to make difficult economic decisions every day.

In his weekly address, Obama outlined his fiscal year 2012 budget request, which he will send to Congress on Monday. Obama’s budget comes as Republicans in Congress are railing against government spending. House Republicans just unveiled a bill to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year that, at the prodding of Tea Party freshmen, cuts current spending by $58 billion.

Obama, in the address, compared the budget-making process to a family having to make sacrifices in order to get by.

Obama told the story of Brenda Breece, a special-ed teacher in Missouri, and her family. The Breece family has tightened their food budget, started watching movies on TV instead of going to the movie theater and even cuts each other’s hair.

“[I]t’s time Washington acted as responsibly as our families do,” Obama said. “And on Monday, I’m proposing a new budget that will help us live within our means while investing in our future.”

Obama said he had to make tough choices on his budget. The budget will call for a five-year spending freeze on all domestic spending, a move that will reduce the deficit by $400 million during the next 10 years, Obama said.

The budget targets wasteful spending, Obama said.

“We’re getting rid of thousands of government-owned buildings that sit empty because they aren’t needed,” he said. “I’ve also proposed freezing salaries for hard-working government employees, because everyone has to do their part.”

Obama also railed against earmarks. “I’m going to make sure politics doesn’t add to our deficit by vetoing any bill that contains earmarks,” he said.

But Obama stressed that there are a number of policies that are worth investing in. He pointed to investments in infrastructure like roads and high-speed rail, clean energy and education.

The rookie Hussein is all over the place. My guess - the election spanking is just being realized.

Does he have even a molecule of real intent to make cuts?

Yep, he is going to try to trick the “independents” and “moderates” with a bunch of words. Are they stupid enough to fall for it?

So, is Barry gonna cut Moochelle’s hair?
Maybe shave the dog too?

Personally I plan on cutting way back this year, I am not going to take 40 of my closest friends on vacation with me and book an entire 5 star hotel in Marbella.

Hard times call for sacrifices.

No. He SAYS he will act responsibly and the media/libs will just repeat it.

Just like the Soviet Union under Stalin.

HE DOESN’T GET IT!

“Brenda” didn’t “freeze spending at current levels for five years”, she made sacrifices.

Wimpy goofy sacrifices like Netflix vs. theatres, but at least she made them.

Odumbo has never proposed an actual honest-to-goodness government SACRIFICE in ANYTHING.

Good thing he wasn’t hooked up to a lie detector when he said those things, or it would have shorted out and shocked the heck out of him.

This is like a guy robbing you at gun point for two years (obama care) and then leaving you a few pennies saying ‘now I promise no more robbing’...

He wants a pat on the head for this?

“a move that will reduce the deficit by $400 million during the next 10 years”

I sure hope “million” is a typo. If he’s really willing to do this, Republicans should accept this concession and then up the ante by putting us on a 30-year plan to eradicate our debt (after all, most families manage in 30 years to wipe out a mortgage that may be multiples of their annual earnings capacity; some even do it in 15).

If spending is this tightly constrained, there won’t be a nickel to spare for boondoggles such as high-speed trains to nowhere or new entitlements we can’t afford, such as Obamacare.

Yeah, this year it can be 20 friends booking half of a 5 star hotel in Acapulco. Then we’ll hear about how much was
‘saved’.

If so, then he should note that the average American family generates a surplus.

I see the parties are still going on at the White House. Still serving lobster and Kobe beef, not to mention the one hundred ten dollar bottles of wine. Like a old monarch trying to show he’s a man of the people. Jerk.

Good thing he wasn’t hooked up to a lie detector...

I wouldn't say that!

Anybody got a kid who needs a science-fair project?

I just had a brainstorm!!!!

You can get sound analysis and recording software online gratis.

1.Download samples of 'bam talks, discussions, speeches, etc
2.Isolate frequently recurring syllable from each, like "I"
3.Run an FFT analysis (DFT:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrete_Fourier_transform)
4.Convert to linear graph
5.Compare each graph according to context: group one--true group 2--false

Just the bare bones of a notion, but it could be done.

You may be looking at the graphic to the left and wondering, "What in the world is that?" That represents nobama's proposed budget "cut." Go here for an eye-opening explanation.

Isn't perception an amazing thing?

A good Republican candidate could make mince meat out of this hypocrite. I dont expect the economy to give him cover, all he has is the media.

Has he obtained the approval for this from Marie Antoinette Moochelle?

The way his wife is in love with spending the public’s money so she can live in opulence and extravagance don’t correlate well to his call for DC to cut back.

This isn’t going to go over well with that beast he’s married to.

BWA HA HA HA HA! Okay, so let’s stop the unspent stimulus money, revoke DeathCare, and put an end to Hussein’s over the top spending.
