Twelve for '12: A Dozen Republicans Who Could Be the Next President - Sarah Palin
Time Magazine ^ | February 14, 2011 | Feifei Sun

Age: 46

Last held public office: Governor of Alaska, 2006-2009

No one commands the adoration or loyalty of John Q. Republican quite like Sarah Palin. Master of folksy quips and pitch perfect populism, the former vice presidential candidate has fabulous base appeal. Her personal story of carrying to term a Down's child gives her unquestionable credibility with anti-abortion activists. After a gig with Fox News, two books, a TLC reality show and two years of swarming attention from the national press corps, the Palin brand is as potent as it is ubiquitous.

One of the characteristics that make Palin so popular with the Republican base is her unshakable one-against-the-world mentality. In Palin's eyes, the "Lamestream Media," jealous rivals and good old boy establishment are working tirelessly to undo her. It's a compelling narrative at a Tea Party rally, but it hasn't much helped her standing elsewhere....

>>>Her personal story of carrying to term a Down’s child gives her unquestionable credibility with anti-abortion activists.<<<

Interesting factoid to use in the second sentence. I would not be surprised that this fact alone is the reason why so many people hate Sarah Palin. Writers tend to lead with what they think is critical in their own minds, and placing the birth of Trig so prominently tells me that it is a significant factor in Palin hatred.

I sure would like to see what each candidate claims as their most outstanding achievement. For instance - what is Sarah’s?

I’d bet she’d say cleaning up the corruption in Alaska and getting more $$ from the energy companies for Alaska’s natural reources. But I’m not her spokesman.

That’s a good shot. I just wonder what all of the contenders would claim. It would be interesting and telling.

Never anything about her accomplishments as governor. They only mention her resignation and the birth of Trig. They pretend she didn’t balance budgets, cut budgets, expand state revenues without raising taxes, plan what will be the nation’s largest pipeline project (unless the Progressives kill it), and put billions in the state’s rainy day fund.

Maybe they’ll get around to it after the 2012 election.

Not a chance! They only acknowledge good done by Republicans after they are dead.

Were she elected as President, do you think that she'd quite in the middle of her term?
[As she did as Governor.]

Nope, because the President of the United States has the power of the Attorney General and a whole slew of legal barriers to prevent ankle-biting activist/ operatives from financially-bankrupting the C-in-C or even forcing the Administration to divert time and effort from State business towards legal affairs.

Unless you have been living under a mushroom for the past couple of years, you might want to begin a regiment of the following:
