CBS News' Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted During Egypt Protests
CBS ^

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

[begin op comment]

Knew something was going on when she was not on air from here in US after returning to CONUS.

This rumor has been working for a few days, and was all but confirmed by the lack of comment or denials from anyone at Black Rock or West 57th.

Some may say Logan has a checkered past, but nothing deserves this!

When 3 CBS engineers were killed by a perp years ago, Rather went into a (well deserved) on-air outrage. This time, there will probably be nothing, because, Lord knows, we don’t want to upset the “Arab Street.” Source with many years in SWA says many Muslims will approve of this, because, it was an infidel getting what she deserved.

When will the rest of America wake up?

Attractive Western woman standing in a huge crowd of agitated third-world Muslims. What could possibly go wrong? </sarc>

WHAT WERE THE IDIOTS AT CBS THINKING? Especially after what happened to other (male) reporters earlier.

I bet it was terrifying, she could have been sentenced to death in some Muslim countries for being raped.

Canned if lucky, stoned if not.

“We should be pissed off an American citizen was treated in such a way, regardless of their affiliations.”

Not really. This is voluntary assumption of the risk.

You can feel bad that it happened to her but there’s no reason to be ticked off about it because of her citizenship.

Remember Aesop’s tale about the scorpion and the frog.

“Im dissapointed at the light hearted remarks being made here. We should be pissed off an American citizen was treated in such a way, regardless of their affiliations.”

Second that - it’s an outrage and a warning to people in the US and Europe who continue to delude themselves about what we’re facing here.

Its pretty sad. Politically though, the left will have to try to find a way to excuse or downplay this. That’s what they do.

They should have known better, but these people don’t think things through. Ironic isn’t it that the USA media wouldn’t get near the tea party events for the fear of violence, but go halfway around the world to insert themselves into a violent situation. And then they are surprised when things go bad.

Let’s see the incident for what it was. These were not Mubarak supporters who did this, but rather, the opponents of Mubarak who did this. They are the “new democrats” who will take power.

it’s interesting that they sat on this for days.. they didn’t want to taint their joyous news coverage , with a bit of the truth: that these were thugs.

It's always a hoot to watch the media demand privacy for their own.

I'm am sorry to hear of Logan's attack. There isn't a snow-ball's chance in hell I'd have gone down to that protest.

How awful! I don’t care what political persuasion a person may be, NOBODY deserves something like this! That poor woman! I hope that she is able to recover from what had to be absolutely TERRIFYING. She has my prayers.

Given that she was attacked by muslims, it can be assumed that she was SODOMIZED as well. It is their modus operandi to send a message to the infidel.
