CBS News says that correspondent Lara Logan was attacked and sexually assaulted last Friday in Cairo’s Tahrir Square while filming a piece for “60 Minutes.”

From the CBS News statement:

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS Correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

It’s amazing.. we’ve been fighting Islamism for a thousand years... and we might have won had we invented the methane combustion chamber first.

The MSM in all it’s glory of BS. Being taken down a notch by a Harvard professor no less.

Will the rape and beating of this woman make the idiots at MSNBC change their tune on how peaceful things went?

FReepers....whatever you think about reporters, the people in Egypt, Islam, etc., this is a woman who was doing a job where she was paid to report and was assaulted, abused, and otherwise taken advantage of by a pack of crazies.

I, for perhaps one, hope for her full recovery and ability to put this behind her. It's horribly sad that this has happened to anyone. Let's have some respect of this woman.

>I agree. But there are plenty of places here in the USA where similar things would have happened to her.<

Not very likely this would happen here out in the open with thousands present as it was in Egypt.

First you would have to have a gathering of several thousand people. Perhaps hundreds debased enough to stand by and watch as this was done in the street without lifting a finger.

>I wonder if these losers in the press corps are starting to see what types of animals are living in these countries with all the attacks on them.<

HA! You should know better than to think for a minute that the liberals will say anything nice about her.

They are pathetic parasites - this just hurts their position. Therefore they can’t think rationally. So naturally .. attack her!

Oh, O.K., so if it had been a male soldier it would be the army’s fault because the enemy raped him....bright.

I like to say that democracy is four rapists and three women voting on how to spend the afternoon.

Are you opposed the the Democratic election of our Representatives?

How about measures that citizens directly approve (democracy in action) such as Constitutional Amendments in Texas? Are you opposed?

>>Are you opposed the the Democratic election of our Representatives?<<

No. I’m just opposed to pure democracy, also called “mobocracy”. In fact, I think the republican form of government is probably the most likely to survive the longest. Democracy will simply end with Dictatorship.

“Nobody deserves this.”

I’m a white guy. There are neighborhoods I wouldn’t walk through. If I did, and got stomped for being a white guy, people would readily see that it wouldn’t have happened if I had exercised a minimum of common sense.

Isn’t interesting how CBS and the rest of the MSM conveniently omitted the fact that the crowd was shouting “death to the jew” - heaven forbid they can report antisemitism among the “pro-democracy” protestors.

Also minimized is the fact that she was rescued by the military, which is being attacked incessantly by MSM but in fact has done a great job in managing a very difficult situation.

Maybe true, but it does not make it right.

“Maybe true, but it does not make it right.”

Nothing can make things like that right, but is it really too much to encourage adults to display a reasonable minimum level of concern for their own safety?

Of course, her employer should have known better, too. No info-babe with augmented mammaries should have been sent into that environment.
