Senators: Ban smokeless tobacco use in MLB
pMSNBC ^ | 2/15/11 | Ken Strickland

Two Democratic senators are asking baseball commissioner Bud Selig to ban all tobacco use in the sport, specifically citing smokeless products.

Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois and Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey are suggesting that Selig push for a ban as part of the negotiations in the players' collective bargaining agreement later this year.

Major League Baseball banned tobacco use in its minor leagues in 1993, but still allows it in the big leagues. The senators say Major League Baseball "is undoubtedly complicit" in the increase its use with school-aged boys.

Ban the cretins Durbin and Lautenburg. They are “undoubtedly complicit” for the animals running around in liberal cities.

Smokin’ Dick Durbin and Fossil Laut really are on top of the major problems today. It probably doesn’t need to be mentioned that these ass-clowns who are so concerned about impressionable children are also pro-abortion.

Why is Congress so obsessed with baseball? It’s a private business. Stop wasting taxpayer’s money investigating and regulating it.

I guess any rise in teenage drinking can be attributed to the young folks copying their local congressman. Ban alcohol. (snicker)

What Major League baseball players chew is none of the government's busness.

Congress gives MLB certain exemptions to law in exchange for the right to butt in every now and then.

Here’s the survey...of course they picked 2003, since it’s the lowest year (by far) out of all the other years, to base their increase use claim. If you look at all the numbers, you can see smokeless use decreased in the 90’s and stayed the same after that.

Let’s instead ban congress from regulating sports. If they have time for crap like this then they simply have too much time in session. Cut sessions to 30 days per year and cut their salary to match it.

PS- I’m really shocked that MSNBC failed to point out that the reference year (2003) was an anomaly and that use has actually gone down over the past 20 years (extreme sarcasm)

How about “I’m Carlton Fisk and I don’t smoke. But I DO enjoy tobacco...” I also used to have a pamphlet called “Terry Bradshaw tells you how to chew tobacco” I didn’t know at the time that football players chewed, too. Fran Tarketon on one of his Tony Robbins infomercials admitted that he gave up a long time chewing habit. He even said that sometimes he’d rather have a chew than have sex.

I prefer “The Washington D.C. Feds”. Whenever they play The Cincinnati Reds, it will be The Feds v.s. The Reds.

Show me where in the Constitution the Senate has jurisdiction over Major League Baseball. If this is all they have to debate let’s disband Congress until there is some real work for them to do.
