A Norwegian shipping magnate was strongly criticized Wednesday for suggesting that pirates captured off the Horn of Africa should be sunk with their skiffs or executed on the spot.
In a newspaper op-ed, the 79-year-old founder of the Stolt-Nielsen shipping group, Jacob Stolt-Nielsen, said history shows that fighting piracy requires a gloves-off approach.
"When (piracy) implies a great risk of being caught and hanged, and the cost of losing ships and weapons becomes too big, it will decrease and eventually disappear," Stolt-Nielsen wrote Tuesday in Norwegian financial newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv.

He is correct, but other than the Russian in the New 'PC' World of ours no one else is going to do it.

In a rational world, good behavior is rewarded, and bad behavior is punished.
In an irrational world, the opposite occurs.

Once upon a time that was the law of the High Seas. Don’t know why it changed. Glad to see the Russians have the right idea.

This guy is right. This idea will be less controversial if the Suez Canal gets shut off and shipping has to be rerouted through that area. People will be less likely to shrug of piracy if goods everyone uses are held up there for substantial amounts of time, especially oil. Watch all ships become heavily armed if that happens.

He can just sink their skiff and leave them alive to find their way back to shore by other means. Deal?

In a rational world, good behavior is rewarded, and bad behavior is punished. Worth repeating. (So sad that it even needs repeating. Yet it does.)

I heard that the Russians actually did handcuff some pirates to their skiff and then sink it. Thats why nobody messes with the Russians. But then the Russians don’t have a Left wing progressive party to scream “Thats not Fair”

Historically, the Danes and Norwegians have some experience in that field. (Hint: What’s Norsk for “pirate”. Answer: “Viking”.)

According to Woodward, Bill Casey told him that when Hezbollah in Lebanon kidnapped two Russian diplomats, the kidnappers’ cousins’ bodies turned up with their penises sewed into their mouths. The diplomats were promptly released. As Casey observed, “The Russians speak Hezbollah’s language.”

Can't do it! If they are in the water you are required to rescue them, if possible. You can hang them right after a Captain's Mass and then can bury the body at sea!
