Anatomy of a Government Shutdown

“Of course a shutdown is possible because that's what the Republicans are threatening us with on national TV, Meet the Press or one of those dandies or whatever the show was. The Republican leader was asked, and I'm paraphrasing, 'is there going to be a government shutdown?' and he wouldn't respond to the question. So, this isn't Schumer or Reid or Hoyer. Of course it's a possibility. That's what we're trying to avoid."

-- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid talking to reporters about House Speaker John Boehner

President Obama warned of stopped Social Security checks and issued a formal veto threat Tuesday to the Republican spending plan currently being debated in the House, setting the stage for a potential government shutdown next month.

So?

Honestly, it is coming one way or another. There is no money. None.

And that means a lot of our foreign adventures are going to end soon.

Da-Da-Da. Ever since November election Democrats have been on TV saying “Republicans are threatening a shutdown”. They clearly think that is a big political trap they are setting for Republicans (ala 1995.) In fact I had a Dem at a business meeting dinner bring it up in November.

Stay tuned. I will stay on this.

I remember in 1995 how the Republicans panicked over the government shutdown and came running to “their Bill” to save them. Would they repeat that tactic? A true shutdown would be wonderful because it would show how useless most of the government actually is, but could the impatient people, the nervous nellies, wait long enough to get the message?

If Obama wants to threaten seniors depending social security, he best be prepared to resign. The protests in Cairo will look like a family picnic compared to what he will face.

I’m thinkin’ that would be a most opportune time for dear leader to shut down the internet “as a precaution”. That would be one more nail in the coffin of our GNP.

The SS checks are automatic. I don’t think there has to be a button pusher to do direct deposit. It would take longer to dismantle the automatic deposit and restart it againn than for them to lv it alone. Ya think?

BTW, “High Noon” occurs right where first few battles over Obamacare were fought. Take it to the streets. Call your congressmen. Only this time, let them know specifically that you support them toughing it out for the sake of real, sizeable spending cuts if and when Obama shuts down the government.

Speaking of pizza... if we shut down the government, who will deliver pizza to the President during the shutdown?

I believe the message, leadership and economic conditions are much different.

. . .

You may be right. There’s a serious disconnect between what Obama and his toadies in the media are telling us is reality and what we know to be true.

There is no recovery. Property values are declining. There are no jobs. Inflation is high.

The GOP lost their power beginning in ‘06 because of their big government, big spending ways. Americans bought the lies of the Democratic Party, thinking they were going to get sanity and ended up with the GOP on steroids.

Obama and the Democrats are sticking to their guns, insisting on making us choke down more of we know doesn’t work and what’s already pissed us off.

Can the dems pull it off? Possibly, but I think it’s much less likely given how far things have spiraled downward and how hard reality is kicking us in the rear.

Hey DUh-bama, don't make threats your mouth can't cash...

Far too many deadbeats in your employ are "so busy" they forgot about paying "thier fair share". Perhaps the rest of us (who actually are paying for your fiasco) should enjoy a few years returning the favor?

Know folks with canes, too.

Maybe you’re talkin’ about them kinds of canes rigged to hide somethin’ that slices, or goes *bang,*

like in them 40’s and 50’s movies - - -

Works for me. Actually, I think of this whenever I see a sturdy or unusual cane - I’m not kidding!
Blame the imagination - and the movies.

Clinton’s shortcomings are manifest. But he was a master politician. Obama? Nope!

"Sounds good to me, as long as the military still is on duty, shut the whole thing down.

I wouuld applaud it highly. Like many Americans, I do not see this government following the will of the people. Shut it down for good , I would applaud that too!

We can start all over from scratch, using our Constitution instead of a “living document.”

dittos!

“During the last “government shutdown”, the sitting president got all the blame. Let’s just make sure that happens again.”

Of course, that would be authentic justice.
