Steve Jobs - who is on another medical leave of absence from Apple, the company he co-founded and manages as its longtime CEO - is receiving treatment at a cancer clinic where Hollywood star Patrick Swayze was a patient in his final days.
RadarOnline.com has confirmed Jobs, 55, has been attending the Stanford Cancer Center in Palo Alto, California, where Swayze sought radical chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer before his death in September, 2009.
The skeletal-looking Apple boss was photographed outside the clinic in images set to be published in the next edition of The National Enquirer.
In one photo, Jobs is seen getting out of his car at the clinic - a day after he turned in a full day's work when he was spotted on Apple's Cupertino campus.
It's unknown whether Jobs' current health battle is related to his liver transplant from 2009, or whether the pancreatic cancer he previously defeated has returned, or if there is a new problem.
In 2004, the computer genius took time off to recover from surgery to treat a very rare form of pancreatic cancer - called an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor.
Jobs, who will turn 56 on February 24, announced on January 17 that he was going on a medical leave.
"At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health," Jobs said in an email to employees.
"I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company."
Others may disagree, but I think Jobs is a key part of Apple’s success. He’s going, and their stock will take a big hit.
An amazingly smart man. I wish him peace and for God’s Will to be done.
He truly is a genius.
His companies devices are always the leading edge of technology.
Everybody else plays catch up..... and that includes Microsoft..............
He is the only part of their success.
I’m not an Apple guy, but I have immense respect for Steve. He will be remembered as one of the towering giants of the computer age.

May God grant him comfort in his final days, however long they may be. Hopefully he knows Jesus as his Lord and Savior so that he can participate in an eternal life even sweeter than what he has known on this little ball of dirt we call home.
Cancer sucks.
We have to be a lot less timid about fighting it. I have worked with cancer researchers, and when they find something promising, their first reaction seems to be “it needs more study.” And then the grant writers go to work, instead of the researchers. Three years later, the researchers receive their grant, and then they get to a point where they say “it needs more study.” Then the grant writers go back to work. By the way, one of the ugly truths I learned about grants at one particular huge research university is that the university takes more than half of it, and spends it on non-research crap!!! Screw the grants!!!

No, I agree. I think Jobs will die young, and Apple’s vision may die with him. Hopefully, they have someone in the wings that shares Steve’s vision.
How much is he involved in the day to day development of their products? I don't know for sure, but being that I am an EE and have worked in an R&D environment, I'd have to say as CEO his input on the engineering level isn't much. Jobs' input is likely more of a "yeah, that's cool, let's develop it further" when his engineers bring him a new doodad, rather than an input like "add two transistors here and we'll go with it".
My guess is there are hundreds, if not thousands of individuals at Apple who share Jobs' "vision". I think the environment they work in is easily as responsible for the products they have produced as any input Jobs has had to those products. In fact, if Jobs can be credited with anything specific that helped Apple gain the edge it has it would be for creating a working environment where imagination of individuals with good ideas can thrive.

The problem is that no one has been as good as Jobs is at promoting the "vision" of Apple. IIRC, when he left the first time, Apple floundered, and it wasn't until he came back that Apple began to improve.
To me, the difference between Apple/Jobs and Microsoft/Gates is that Gates sold computers as a commodity, but Jobs sells desire. So when Gates left, everything kept going, because there are many who can sell commodities, but when Jobs leaves, you need a new leader who can sell desire. That is a bigger set of shoes to fill.
