Officials with the Hudson School District have decided to cancel classes Friday because of what they call 'the unusually high teacher absences."
District officials also cited a lack of qualified substitutes.
The state's largest school district has joined those that have canceled classes due to teacher shortages caused by union protests at the state Capitol.
Officials say more than 600 of the 5,400 teachers in Milwaukee Public Schools called in sick Friday to attend the protests over Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill. The district has more than 82,000 students at 184 schools.
Schools in Madison, Janesville, Wisconsin Dells and other districts around Wisconsin are also closed. Teachers and other state union workers are upset that Republican Gov. Scott Walker wants to curtail their collective bargaining rights and is asking them to contribute more to their health insurance and pensions.
Angry public workers have packed the state Capitol in Madison in protest.
If they have no notes from Doctors then fire them.
public workers?............
Fire them.
Period.
This is a looooooong way away from Madison...
So much for the kids!
Put them up on a Flickr feed or some other public website, and email the URL to every school administrator in the state.
Invite them to look through the pictures and see if they recognize anyone that called in "sick".
Fire the lot. These people do care about “the children”
What a joke.
Pensions & Health Care contributions - all this BLOW OUT over just that? Geez.
I watched the news last night and one reporter interviewed a teacher. She said, “I work very hard for my students and they know that I do”. I wanted to throw the remote at the television.
These kids and their parents are getting the best education they’ve had in 12 yrs.
Pray for America
This day should be interesting. Wisconsin GOP needs to hang tough. Organizing for America (Obama’s campaign pac) is organizing lots of out of state people to be bussed in to help protest in Madison today. Disgusting.
This is a battleground for the entire country. IF state of Wisconsin says they will NOT “collect” union dues for the unions out of the paychecks, then the unions lose out because many teachers / public employees may not WANT to pay the union dues. Gee - freedom of right to work on your own terms. What a concept. Unions / Obama / Democrats all one in the same will not let this stand, so they MUST make this Wisconsin issue a national issue. Very dangerous situation, IMHO.
Also, do you want those screaming, yelling, protesting teachers anywhere NEAR your kids when and if they ever return to the classroom? Imagine the vile they will spew on your children. Also disgusting. For the children... phhhhttt.
I didn't notice until now that the linked article was from KSTP -- a television station in St. Paul, MN.
Hudson, WI, is just across the state line from the Twin Cities -- but 243 miles from Madison, WI.
Nice 4-day weekend off.
I wish parents would go and picket at the schools with signs that say “If you really care about the kids, do your job!”
Milwaukee has 82,000 schoolkids and 5,400 teachers. That works out to 15.18 kids per teacher.
Florida class sizes cannot exceed the following:
Elementary 18 kids per teacher
Middle School 22 kids per teacher
High School 25 kids per teacher.
It appears that not only are the Milwaukee teacher salary and benefits bloated, it also seems they are very underworked.
Surprise—surprise
They prolly get Presidents Day off, too.
The gov needs to send out truant officer to round up their asses and get them to school.
“Bieber brains” I like that.
I will add that to the list:
Crumb cruncher
Yard ape
Rug rat
Curtain climber
Bieber brain
