Walker and the Republicans need to hang tough. This is a national precendent setting case. If they don't want to contribute some to their retirement and pay 12% of their gold-plated health insurance, then fire them. Period.
I agree with you! Here in Wisconsin we see a small tidal wave of very interested people (partly due to Tea Party attitude) paying WAY more attention to the School Board elections at the local levels and at the state level. We are beginning to weed out the lefty leaning, sob story type of booard member for conservative members and the left’s heads are exploding. During the Nov. election in my town, we got 4 conservatives elected and dumped some real lefties. OUCH - they were shocked, I tell ya. Shocked.
Enough of this. The Party is OVER. We love Gov. Walker and he’s as calm as a cucumber. THAT’s why we elected him.
I went to Whittier Elementary School in Toledo Ohio in the 50’s. We had 30 to 35 kids per class. These teachers have no idea what “hard work” really is.
yep
My sweetie is a teacher and he’s off on Monday for President’s Day.
Sooner or later, we’ll use the two word solution that always works:
“You’re fired”.
Teachers - as a group - can be replaced by anyone possessing a good 12th grade education ——— of 40 years ago.
A modern degree in “education” is worth about as much as the word of our idiot president.
I was stuck in the car yesterday listening to some of the interviews, and since the Rolling Stone interview with Justin Bieber was fresh in my mind, I couldn’t help from thinking when I heard those kids. “Sheesh! What a Bieber Brain!”
How will this effect kids applying to college?
Don’t schools have to run a specific number of days each year?
I know the teachers don’t care, but if I was a student or a parent in Wisconsin, I’d be mad as heck right now!
These teachers may not have a clue how something like this can impact the kids they supposedly “care about”. In my senior year, our teachers went on strike. I, to this day, remember our bus inching through the picket line and having a male teacher SPIT on my window. It was disgusting! We were very worried that we would not get the credits to graduate and college plans were up in the air. All extra-curricular stuff was cut, and when the teachers finally came back, I had no interest in resuming orchestra or helping on the committees & clubs I had been on the year before. I basically dropped out of everything other than required classes. I lost respect for teachers, because I knew it wasn’t about “us”, it was about the money. Sad.
Layoffs may not be necessary after the firings take place.
This whole Wisconsin mess may just be the first big “battle” of the culture war. How will Joe and Jane public see this? Will they see the union fascists for what they are, or will they be too self-absorbed and wonder why they’re being inconvenienced with having to find child care?
Mae sure you call his office and voice support for him. Its important!
There were 25 to 30 kids in my elementary thru high school classes.
If they weren’t sick, fire them all.
http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/dataondemand/33534649.html is a search tool to find out salaries of public teachers in WI.
We’ll see how fun it is at the end of the schoolyear when they have to make up all those days.
I also had some teachers that taught my Mother. They didn't put up with any nonsense. How times have changed!
There are 5 members on the school board in our county. In November we got rid of the two liberals who were up for election.
We need to wait until Nov 2012 to get rid of the other 2 liberals.
Yup, going into Nov 2012 we had 4 liberals and 1 conservative on the school board. This was due to voter apathy and the sense that everything was honky-dory in our area.
A woman in Madison called Rush yesterday and said she drove by one high school where the students were picketing with signs that said things like "what about us?".
