Poll: Public unions a hard sell (64% of Americans oppose public-sector unions)
Politico ^ | 2/18/2011 | Ben Smith

Posted on 02/18/2011 12:56:19 PM PST by Qbert

A new poll from the Washington-based Clarus Group asked:

Do you think government employees should be represented by labor unions that bargain for higher pay, benefits and pensions ... or do you think government employees should not be represented by labor unions?

A full 64% of the respondents said "no."

That includes 42% of Democrats, and an overwhelming majority of Republicans. Only 49% of Democrats think public workers should be in unions at all.

That's on the fundamental right to organize, before you get to wages and benefits. And that puts Scott Walker in a pretty good political place.

(According to the release, this was a national survey of 1,001 registered voters. One note: Clarus is a division of the global corporate public relations giant Qorvis, not exactly a labor bastion.)

Don't worry. Jesse Jackson and Richard Trumka are going to give it everything they've got. Heh heh.

Isn't 64% just about the percentage who were in opposition to ObamaCare?

A bit of a push poll but I’ll bet if you reworded it in an unbiased way a solid majority would still oppose.

Why would oBama support them with this kind of poll?

ANSWER: He must really be afraid of a possible Democratic primary opponent, and is bolstering his cred. with the left wing.

This could really be fun to watch.

And that puts Scott Walker in a pretty good political place.

And it places Hussein in a bad political place. Once again (see mosque, drilling, arizona, etc).

This figure is what’s going to prompt the “public punishment” phase that I’ve been predicting. Actions designed to inconvenience and outrage average people, particularly those who live in suburbs. They will target women and children.

uh oh....guess we’ll all have to go to the re-education camps, or BO will have to throw the public serpent unions under the bus.

“Why would oBama support them with this kind of poll?”

Because he is the President of those most likely to parasitize others. That's who he supports. That's who supports him.

I work for the Federal Government (in a Constitutionally authorized department) and I am not represemted by a union. I am more than fine with it. In fact I am OK with a shut-down and a pay cut if needed. I know it sounds crazy, but I am prepared because I know what it means to ALL of us to get the deficit under control and what it means if we don’t. Let the Congress keep setting my pay and benefits and if I don’t like the terms, I will quit.

We need to talk up the fact that these workers called off sick, so they got paid for protesting. The schools have had to close for 3 days because of staff shortages, thus putting working parents in a bind having to scramble for last minute child care. We need to talk about how some teachers took high school students with them to the protests without the kids knowing what they were there for, and likely, without the parents' permission.

We need to make sure that everyone knows these are not good, hard working people. They are merely a bunch of union thugs with their hands in our pockets.

I honestly think he is worried about a primary contest, and wants to kill any thought of an attack from his left.

The beauty of all this: He is publicly supporting a shut down of government in a state he really needs to win again (this won’t help); triangulation, shmangulation—he shows his true colors to the country again. You just know Bill Clinton (that slick SOB) would handle this in a much better way, politically.

Hm, wonder what the response would be if police and firefighters unions are included. Or do people not know that cops and firefighters are unionized too.

This is why the WI Democrat Senators must be hauled back to the Capital and forced to go on record either in opposition or in support of Walker’s propositions. Those 64% need to know exactly who is with them and who is against them. No hiding.

That gives me hope that we will be OK after the Civil War. The second one. The one that started in Wisconsin.

I oppose public sector unions for the same reason I oppose letting lunatics run an asylum or the Pittsburgh Steelers competing in a Pop Warner league.

There is token opposition against mob rule. Worse, the token opposition WANTS the mob to win so the token opposition can claim credit.

I'm thinking the only potential candidate more to Barack Obama's left is Hugo Chavez.
