A police officer who said women could avoid sexual assault by not dressing like sluts in an address to law students college has apologised.
Constable Michael Sanguinetti made the stunning remark during a meeting about safety at Toronto's York University.
While a more senior officer was talking, Mr. Sanguinetti interrupted and reportedly said: 'You know, I think were beating around the bush here. Ive been told Im not supposed to say this, however, women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.

What?! Maybe you should take another swing at that.

Our popular culture abhors restraint these days.
1. It’s not the victims fault, even if she pulls up her skirt and taunts “Don’t you want some?”
2. Dressing like sluts is still a bad idea.

He said sluts.
true. I agree 100%.
And its also a bad idea to dress like sluts. lol.
All us guys know that a woman dressing like a slut doesn't get any extra attention at all!
(uh huh)
You are right. The critics and “apologizers are essentially saying: “What would a police officer know about what puts someone at greater risk? No, it would be better to repeat imbecile feminist mantras... Much better to let them dress as they please and learn something about reality.”
Rather misleading arrangement of words in that headline. The statement about dressing like sluts came first, then the apology for it. They weren’t simultaneous.
Of course “not dressing like sluts” is not a goof proof strategy, but they could sure cut their risks.
Would the cop tell men not to wear nice suits or expensive shoes? Might push the buttons on one of the ‘twisted’ ones - causing a robbery...
It’s come to this...now we must lie. This worries me more than people out breaking windows because it hits at the very core of Christianity.
...in an address to law students college... Constable Michael Sanguinetti... "I've been told I'm not supposed to say this, however, women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."
If you dress to attract attention, you cannot control whose attention you attract. Ever notice that the female bird that sits on the eggs is a drab color so that she isn’t noticed by predators?
That being said, most rapes are not of the slutty chick at the bar, she is giving it away, no need to force it from her. It is the woman jogging alone in the park or going home late at night.
Ouch. Yeah, an apology is in order. But I don’t think he was saying that the way a woman dresses justifies rape.
It’s like my little old saintly Grandma said once: “If you don’t want to be treated like a prostitute, don’t advertise like one.”
Some wisdom there, I think.
I ahd to change it because the limits on the number of characters in the headline area when I was posting.
DUH.......
Well, I sympathize with the officer. Rape is rape, and it’s the rapist’s fault.
But if you are a woman, and you don’t want to be raped, there are certainly precautions you should take. Don’t walk the streets alone at 2:00 in the morning, for instance. Don’t go out on the town and get falling down drunk. Stay out of the bad parts of town. And don’t dress like a slut.
I presume he said this because he is concerned about the welfare of these young women.
(said they could... )
Wrong. Minimize? Reduce? Yes. But avoid, no. Also don't hang out with idiots and avoid the places where idiots tend to congregate.
Actually, I wonder that if a woman did dress like a slut, a punk thinking about raping her might wonder if her PIMP is nearby.
