What's at Stake in Wisconsin's Budget Battle
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 2/19/2011 | John Fund

This week President Obama was roundly criticized, even by many of his allies, for submitting a federal budget that actually increases our already crushing deficit. But that didn't stop him Thursday from jumping into Wisconsin's titanic budget battle. He accused the new Republican governor, Scott Walker, of launching an "assault" on unions with his emergency legislation aimed at cutting the state budget.

“Labor historian Fred Siegel offers further reasons why unions are manning the barricades. Mr. Walker would require that public-employee unions be recertified annually by a majority vote of all their members, not merely by a majority of those that choose to cast ballots. In addition, he would end the government’s practice of automatically deducting union dues from employee paychecks. For Wisconsin teachers, union dues total between $700 and $1,000 a year.”

—If the public sector unions are supposedly so wonderful and protective of their members, why are they so afraid here?...

“I would be willing to wager a princely sum that after those ‘strikers’ are fired that within a week there would be enough other teachers in place to begin school at full strengh.”

I read an article that mentioned over 400 people had applied for one teaching position. Elsewhere, several hundreds applied for 1 janitor position.

Fire the teachers.......

“Without union dues that are automatically deducted from paychecks there will be a HUGE financial loss- crippling even.”

BUMP! In the BILLIONS of dollars. This has NOTHING to do with ‘quality education’ or ‘collective bargaining.’ This has EVERYTHING to do with padding the union coffers!

Man, I wish others would SEE that! Grrrr!

To put this into focus...From the numbers I have found on my local school districts website and from the local paper...

Total cost for the district is around $16,500,000. They have that split down to about $11,000 per student. From there they split that number into “transportation and facilities” at 12.6% of the total, “food and community service” at 5.1% of the total, and “education cost” at 82.3% of the total. Isn't that great...over 82% goes to educating the child...but wait, let's check to see how much that is...it comes to around $9,100 per student. Now if I add up the salaries and benefits that are reported then...$8,300 dollars go to salaries and benefits. That means that all of the rest of the education items such as books, paper, hand outs, etc, is around $800 per student...wow, that doesn't seem like all that much when I started out at $11,000 per student.

Christie is reportedly working out with a personal trainer 3 days a week and has noticeably lost weight.

Not that it will stop Matthews. They still call Rush fat even though he isn’t any longer.
