>>>>Dr. Thornton will be forced to recommend to the Board that legal action be taken against the teachers’ union (MTEA).

I bet the good doctor will issue a sternly worded letter of admonishment to each and every one of them... administrators are former teachers, and they’ll be hesitant to do anything. What would be nice is if some school boards showed some fortitude and voted to not renew some teachers’ contracts for next year.

I hope you meant to say the Teachers CANNOT get overtime pay

I was being facetious. Then again, nothing is a shock these days.

When the students spend the first few days of their summer vacations sitting in hot classrooms, they can think about how their teachers expect them as future taxpayers to foot the entire bill for their health care and retirement.

The most important of all question is missing. “When will their sorry asses be thrown in jail?”

I am sure there are plenty of unemployed teachers around the country that would love to have a job.

I would bet it wouldnt take long to fill in all those empty positions.

No, the overtime would be great! It would REALLY hammer the nails in the union coffin.

A little off subject, but I'm sure we all have heard teachers bitching about all the work they take home at night and things they do on "their own time". Are they not aware that they are professional salaried employees? My husband has RARELY worked an 8 hour day in his entire career. He is salaried and works 10 to 12 hours a day and often is checking emails and working details on weekends.

Teachers need to stfu about work they take home - they work less than 7 hours a day at school, have weeks at a time off during the year plus all of the major holidays, plus an extended summer vacation.

Yes, they conveniently forget that many salaried employees in the private sector work much longer hours than the "normal" 8 but also work many more days than the 190 or so that teachers do.

“Time for CDC and homeland security to step in.

Quarantine all teachers until full physicals and lab work can be done.”

You do that they get paid. I would just place a national ad that Wisconsin is looking for teachers to temp with the opportunity to go full time.

I had this thought as well. Just wait until the crumb-crunchers find out that their wonderful, selfless teachers just consumed a week or so of the crumb-cruncher's summer vacations.

That will go over well, I'm sure.

LOL All of those stupid kids who wetn and demostrated are going to give up part of thier summer because of this.Perfect.As my hubby said...he wonders if all of those young teachers out there realize that if they get their way and don’t get concessions that most of them will be the ones laid off in favor of the older teachers to close the budget gap....

They should just open the schools and ask for volunteer teacher assistants. let the kids work following the current curriculum. Let the unions go to court to get back wages. See how many fall behind in their bills and screw up their lives.

In most states if you have a Bachelor’s degree you can teach as a “long term” substitute, and even be considered for a tenure track position provided that you obtain a Master’s in Education before tenure is considered/offered. This is three years.

The key here is to eliminate tenure rules. They are exempt-salaried employees. The reason they cannot be fired is because of tenure.

The key here is for Wisconsin to eliminate tenure. If they can do that, it will go a long way to reforming education.

The NEA has fought hard to keep tenure. This is why they have these “rubber rooms” for miscreant teachers. It’s cheaper for the district to just pay them, keep them out of the classroom, than it is to move to a 30.20A hearing for dismissal, which the school district usually loses.

My wife (school principal) tried to fire a teacher who was threatening/sexually harassing other staff. Had everything documented, letters of counsel in his file, and they lost the 30.20A hearing. Had to re-instate the teacher with back-pay. Cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars for the hearing, lawyers, and the back pay too.

My wife says that Wisconsin needs to abolish tenure. That would make getting rid of disruptive/under-preforming/worthless teachers so much easier. The reason these bastards are as vocal as they are is because they pretty much can’t get fired unless they physically assault a student.

"I hope the teachers can get overtime pay if the school year is extended."

The Wis. taxpayers should demand the teachers work for free on these self-inflicted make-up days.

The next step is to increase class size from 22 to 29 and go merit pay. Fire the lower tier of parasites and cut billions from budgets all over the country. Its our money . These kids don’t learn anything any way. A bunch of diversity crap and that is it!

The best way to go is as you say, raise class sizes to 30 pupils, and fix the curriculum. Get down to the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic and citizenship. Eliminate all of the soggy feel good BS like “black history month” and the like.

Lose tenure, and make them “at will” employees. They stray off the curriculum, they get fired, period.

These POS’s are so obnoxious because they know they can’t get fired without significant effort and some sort of “cause”. Poor performance, a crappy attitude, being a stinking communist, just isn’t enough (though it should be).

Funny thing was when my wide was a teacher she was all gung ho for the NEA line. Now that she’s a principal, she wants tenure gone, and wholesale firings of entire school staffs.

She’s also finding out that many long seniority administrators (tenured ex-radical communists) need to shown the door as well. Many of them simply refuse to document the egregious actions of these crappy teachers and view the school as a “make work country club” for adults, the children/parents be damned.

My wife was a teacher and brought Jesus directly in the class room. They all love her today.
What we need beyond your great ideas is corporal punishment for high schoolers administered by certified disciplinarians who are exempt from suits and who are monitored on video as they swat the crap out of the unruly. You Don’t have to do it more than 5 times to shut everybody up!! Take some gang banging POS and pound his fat ass with 4 swats from some big jock coach who has sovereign immunity and it is back to education rather than tattoos and babysitting. WE LOST THE SCHOOLS AFTER INTEGRATION BECAUSE WE WERE AFRAID TO SWAT BLACK KIDS!!! ohhhhhhhh truth hurts. Swat the little bastards of alllll races if they do not conform to the rules!!! You might save one from a life in prison!! And he might learn some Shakespeare. My God this system sucks.
