Headline is a little flaky (typical these days, I guess). The tremor was 6.3 on the Richter scale, and evidently there were some fatalities (which I had not known before now...)

There is live TV coverage of rescues, but it doesn’t look like many people will have survived below the top floor.

A 6.3 earthquake with fatalities is pretty easy to understand.
It means there was an earthquake and someone died...Some of you are a little slow, but it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

The local TV news says 4 stories. They are running video of ongoing rescues of people in the wreckage.
A doctor who was interviewed said the CTV building is worse.
Australian Broadcasting is showing a simulcast of the New Zealand TV broadcast without geographic restrictions.
