Israel was keeping an eye Tuesday on two Iranian Navy warships that crossed the Suez Canal for the first time in over 30 years in a belligerent move that Israel claims is an attempt by the Islamic Republic to project its power throughout the Middle East. The two ships - the Khark which has 250 crew members and can carry three helicopters and the Alvand which is armed with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles – entered the Suez Canal early Tuesday morning and arrived in the Mediterranean Sea by the evening.Israeli defense officials said that the ships did not pose a

So much for the DEBKA report that US warships were in position to block their entrance into the canal.

Why is the US allowing this to happen?

Didn’t the US just vote in the UN to condemn Israel?

It was probably our idea. Obama probably wants to taunt Israel into a war so they can finally be eliminated.

If the US attacked or detained the Iranian ships it would be an act of war.

Of course Iran has been at war with the US since 1979, but why quibble?

I almost, although not quite, feel sorry for the sailors aboard those ships. Imagine sailing thousands of miles knowing that there are forces lurking out there who can easily destroy you within minutes if they so choose.

Because we no longer have the will to stop them.... and they know it.

the Alvand which is armed with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles

I thought the Egyptians said the ships couldn't be armed if they were to cross the Suez.

Israel protested ... they had no choice.

Now, let one of these ships attempt to act in an aggressive way - and Iran will have their Navy cut short by a couple ships. Iran doesn’t have a whole lot.

Thank goodness we show no display of arrogant Americanism.

The world is in deep trouble because nobody carries a big stick. Islamic collectivism however, gets it's way at any price.

They are there to escort the next flotilla to Gaza that intends to run the blockade.

They are allowing it to happen because they have to have time to work up enough saliva to form spitballs.

Because there is freedom of the seas.

Iran is perfectly to sail everywhere on the oceans and the Suez canal is not a restricted waterway.

What valid reason can you give for not allowing the Iranian vessels to sail where ever they want?

What do you think you’re doing injecting a little sanity into this thread? You some kinda troublemaker?

Seriously, folks here are forgetting that freedom of navigation is a two-way street. The state denying right of passage to the Iranians for no valid reason today might be the state that thinks it can then pull the same stunt on us sometime in the future.

Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be keeping a real close eye on these two ships while they are out of Iranian waters but up to now at least they haven’t done anything that would justify any sort of action against them.

Warships carrying missles to Syria. Enemy of Israel and this is the first time in how many years they have been allowed to sail thru the canal?
